The Daily Teaser — 18-4-2016

Hmmm …

Come the 23rd June?

Come the 23rd June, there’s going to be an EU referendum in the UK.

Personally?

I am still not sure which way to vote: even now, as the date grows nearer.

But … ?

The news has come in, today, that the Treasury has said Britain’s economy would contract by some six per cent.

Now I couldn’t tell you.

But — and despite what Chancellor George Osbourne has said in the interview he’s giving to Radio Four’s Today programme — I can’t help think that is is the Government coming down on the side of the Remain campaign.

Potentially breaking the Electoral Commission rules on the referendum in the process.

Pros and cons aside, I think this is — much like the government-issued leaflet, issued just before the start of the referendum campaign — somewhat unfair to the Leave campaign.

And I’m tempted to vote leave as a result.

But let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with both scoring six out of six.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video

Q1) Gamal Abdel Nasser became PM: on 18th April, 1954.   Of where?
Q2) Zimbabwe came into existence: on 18th April, 1980.   What had the country been called, up until then?
Q3) 18th April, 2005, saw Adobe System announce they were buying Macromedia.   This gave Adobe control of which multimedia platform: Quicktime, Flash or WAV?
Q4) 18th April, 1912, saw the RMS Carpathia arrive at New York.   Carrying surviving passengers from which sunken ship?
Q5) Finally … 18th April, 1953, saw the birth of actor, Rick Moranis.   In which film did he play Seymour Krelborn?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 17th April saw the Peak District named as Britain’s first National Park.   In which year?
A1) 1951.
Q2) More to the point, the District is at the southern end of which small mountain range?
A2) The Pennines.
Q3) The Canterbury Tales were read to the Court of Richard 3rd, on 17th April, 1397: by the original author.   Who was he?
Q4) 17th April, 1924, saw the founding of Hollywood studio, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer: also called MGM.   It’s logo is a roaring … what?
A4) Lion.
Q5) 17th April, 2014, saw the Kepler telescope spot Kepler-186f: an Earth sized planet, orbiting Kepler 186.   Planet and star are in which constellation?
A5) Cygnus.
Q6) Finally … 17th April, 1959, saw the birth of Sean Bean.   He played Ned Stark in which TV series?
I’ll leave you with this thought …
“Well, I took a sabbatical. I walked away from shooting movies because I couldn’t handle the travel. I’m a single parent. I had young kids, and I found that keeping in touch with them from hotel rooms and airports wasn’t working for me. So I stopped.”
Rick Moranis, born April 18, 1953.
And this tune …

Have a good day!

*        It’s sounds like a deeply complex subject, Olga!   (I remember watching a documentary, a few years ago, that speculated how many businessmen and women had undiagnosed personality disorders.   I think Debbi and I have discussed how Steve Jobs, of Apple, was supposed to have some issues.   I can only hope some could be guided into something positive.)

†        Oh, sorry to hear that, Debbi: here’s hoping SOMETHING good comes of it!

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
