The Daily Teaser — 24-4-2016

Well, that went OK … !

I mentioned, yesterday, that I’ve volunteered for World Book Night, this year: as I have for the past few.

And have to admit, it went well.

I managed to hand out the sixteen copies I had — of SJ Parrish’s Treachery — fairly rapidly: up and down Brentwood High Street.

Which went VERY well.

I think we can safely say getting a free book is quite something …

In other events?

In other events, Dr Who has a new companion: in the snap of a character called Bill: played by Pearl Mackie.

Personally?

I’m looking forward to her introduction in 2017.

She looks rather interesting …

But let’s move on, shall we?   As I have a staff meeting to go to!

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with both scoring ten out of ten.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) 24th April, 1558, saw Mary, Queen of Scots, marry François, the heir to the French throne.   As heir, he held which title: Duke of Anjou, Dauphin or Rex Francorum?
Q2) 24th April, 1957, saw the first episode broadcast of The Sky At Night.   Who was it’s original presenter?
Q3) 24th April, 1916, was the first day of the Easter Uprising.   In which country?
Q4) In the run up to World War 2, the Nazis closed the HQ of the Watch Tower Society: on 24th April, 1933.   In other words, they started to persecute whom?
Q5) Finally … 24th April, 1973, saw the birth of cricketer, Sachin Tendulkar.   He’s also known as the Little … what?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 23rd April, 2016, marks the anniversary of William Shakespeare’s death.   Which anniversary: the 200th, 300th or 400th?
A1) The 400th.
Q2) This means he died in which year?
A2) 1616.
Q3) He was born — and christened — in which year?
A3) 1564.
Q4) Shakespeare was married in 1584.   To Anne … who?
A4) Anne Hathaway.
Q5) They had three children.   Name any one of those children.
Q6) The Fair Youth, the Dark Lady and the Rival Poet, all feature in Shakespeare’s what?
A6) Sonnets.
Q7) Two plays are said to have been written by Shakespeare: and subsequently lost.   Name either.
A7) Love’s Labour’s Won or The History of Cardenio.   (The latter is said to be based on work by Miguel de Cervantes, who died on 22rd April, 1616, the day before the Bard.   The latter is the play the Bard was supposed to have been trying to write, in Dr Who episode, The Shakespeare Code.)
Q8) Troilus and Cressida, Romeo and Juliet and King Lear are Shakespearean what: comedies, histories or tragedies?
A8) Tragedies.
Q9) Antonio, Portia and Shylock appear in which of Shakespeare’s plays?
Q10) Finally … which of Shakespeare’s plays opens with the line “Now is the winter of our discontent,”?
I’ll leave you with this thought from — arguably — Cricket’s best batsman …
“When people throw stones at you, you turn them into milestones.”
Sachin Tendulkar, born 24th April, 1973.
And a quick tune from Babs …

Enjoy your Sunday …

*      I think I managed, Olga‡: just!   I just wished I’d at home for that Manchester-Everton match.   I’m not a football fan: but would’ve liked to have seen the announcement about the new companion, live!   (I think you’re right, by the way: I’d be discontent, shoved under a carpark!)

†        Yeah, I think someone’s got mixed up, Debbi‡: if not you, then certainly me!   Oh, by the way, did you catch the news about the new companion?   She’s called Bill

‡        Oh, Richard 3rd is an odd bit of rhyming slang.   Richard 3rd being found in a carpark … is unfortunate in the circumstances …

Talking of Richard the III and Dr Who, I had to check (in case he had already) but, don't your think Peter Capaldi would make a great Richard the Third?

  2. I'm looking forward to seeing her in action! :)

    3. Ireland
    4. Jehovah's Witnesses
    5. Master (no relation to the one on Doctor Who, I assume! :))

BTW, I started watching "Blake's Seven" at last! I really love it. But then I'm big on paranoid, Orwellian sci-fi. :)

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
