Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 21-7-2016

Hmmm …

That’s what happened, is it … ?

Yesterday?   Yesterday, first thing, I was having problems getting the Teaser posted up.

At least … getting the Teaser posted was ok … just … !

Getting to YouTube?   Wikipedia?   Getting to the Creative Commons License page?

Was a no-no.

Turns out BT — my ISP, and the company whose infrastructure is what the ’Net runs on, here in the UK — had issues with one of its data centres.

Which meant I had issues all morning.

Still …

It could have been worse.

But it wasn’t the start I wanted to my Wednesday … !

~≈Ç≈~

But let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with both scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video

Q1) 21st July, 1951, saw the birth of actor and comedian, Robin Williams.   In which 1978 series did he play an alien?
Q2) 21st July, 1914, saw which country decide to remain neutral, during World War 1?
Q3) 21st July, 1954, saw a conference decide to partition Vietnam into North and South Vietnam: at the end of the First Indo-chine War.   The two countries are now called what?
Q4) The HMS Hermes arrived back in port: on 21st July, 1982.   It arrived back, after taking part in the Falkands War.   Which port did it arrive at?
Q5) Finally … 21st July, 1899, saw the birth of Ernest Hemingway.   Which of his novels features Robert Jordan, a fighter in the International Brigades?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 20th July, 1990, saw the Provisional IRA set off a bomb.   Outside London’s what?
A1) Stock Exchange.
Q2) 20th July, 1189, saw Richard 1st of England invested as Duke of where: Normandy, Aquitaine or Orleans?
A2) Normandy.
Q3) During World War 1, 20th July, 1917, saw the signing of the Declaration of Corfu.   The Declaration led to the creation of which (then) Kingdom?
A3) Yugoslavia.
Q4) The Viking 1 lander, landed: on 20th July, 1976.   Landed where?
A4) Mars.
Q5) Finally … 20th July, 2015, saw the USA resume formal diplomatic contact: with which island nation?
A5) Cuba.
I’ll leave you with this thought …
“The good parts of a book may be only something a writer is lucky enough to overhear or it may be the wreck of his whole damn life — and one is as good as the other.”
Ernest Hemingway, July 21, 1899 – July 2, 1961.
And this tune …

Enjoy your day.

*        Thinking about it, Olga, you might have problems — yesterday — getting through to any UK based, as a result of BT’s problems!   Apparently, there was a power cut in one of their London data centres.   At ANY rate … ?   I don’t know if our tastes in movies is a match: but if you hit the Movies or Horror tags at the bottom of the page?   You’ll find the results interesting.   (Oh, Pan’s Labyrinth, and The Devil’s Backbone?   Sheer GENIUS!   You’re ALSO the one person I know who won’t need the sub-titles!)   (I DO know re-loading the web-page helps: especially if you’re getting problems with Google’s +1 button.)

†        You’ve not seen The Wicker Man, Debbi?   You saying Wayward Pines is Prisoneresque will get me looking for it.   But The Wicker Man had that same feel: at least, for me.   AND it’s very spooky, as well.   (We’ll have to see what turns up in the (e)mail …)   (Oh, Debbi, have you been getting any issues with Google’s +1 button?)

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
