Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 18-8-2016: Brian Aldiss

Well, FINALLY …

I had time off, yesterday …

Well, you’d guessed that, hadn’t you … ?

My point is … ?   Well, my point is quite simple.

I managed to catch a couple of movies, yesterday.

The afternoon saw me, my sister, Ruth, and nephew, Jude, catching The BFG.   Great fun, I think: especially the frobscottle.

I managed to catch something else, in the evening.

After all this time: I managed to catch the Stanley Kubrick directed, The Shining.

And I’m wondering what took me so long … !

But let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Debbi* putting in her answers: scoring five out of five in the process.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s Brian Aldiss themed questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) 18th August saw the birth of SF author, Brian Aldiss.   In which year of the 1920s?
Q2) He was born in East Dereham.   The parish is in which English country?
Q3) 1967 Aldiss novel, An Age, was re-titled when published in the US.   Re-titled as what?
Q4) Aldiss’s Helliconia novels were first published in the 1980s.   Name one of the three.
Q5) Finally … Aldiss’s short story, Super-Toys Last All Summer Long, was the basis of which film?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) Nazi war criminal, Rudolf Hess, was found dead in his prison cell: on 17th August, 1987.   Which prison was he being held in?
Q2) 17th August, 1893, saw the birth of actress, Mae West.   In which George Raft movie did she make her film debut?
.
Q3) Cricketer, Roy Tattersall, was born on 17th August, 1922.   Which county side did he play for?
Q4) 17th August, 1887, saw the birth of activist, Marcus Garvey: held by many Rastafarians as a prophet.   What was the name of the shipping line he helped found?
A4) The Black Star Line.
Q5) Finally … Which member of the Royal Family passed his A-levels: on 18th August, 2000?
A5) The Duke of Cambridge: ALSO known as Prince William.
I’ll leave you with this thought …
“Most SF is about madness, or what is currently ruled to be madness; this is part of its attraction — it’s always playing with how much the human mind can encompass.”
Brian Aldiss, born 18th August.
And this interview with the man, himself …

Have a good day!

*        Hmmm … can you repost the link for me, please, Debbi … ?   (And I’m keeping my fingers crossed.)

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
