Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 15-11-2016

You know, I’ll have to keep my eyes peeled.

Last night, at work … ?

I managed to miss finding a job I’d thought I’m managed to put through the system.

But hadn’t managed to track properly, through another.

It’s something I’m mildly kicking myself for.

But being a little forgiving about: as I’m still learning the job …

Do you follow the BBC’s technology news?   You’ll probably be aware that Tesco’s banking arm has had its issues: having seen significant amounts of customer’s money taken, a few weeks ago.

Seemingly?

The attack’s been linked to certain forums on the Dark Web.   Whose users claim to have accessed login details for the bank using brute force attacks.

Then?

Setting up Android Pay accounts, linked to the accounts, to pay for as much as possible.

Personally?

I’m thinking this is going to get more common.

I’m also wondering.

I’ve noticed Tesco were warned this was happening: a couple of months before the major attack on Tesco’s system.

I’m wondering what — having been warned — what Tesco were doing …

But let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga* and Debbi† putting in their ideas: with each scoring six out of six.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) 15th November, 1939, saw the corner of the Jefferson Memorial laid: by the then US President.   Which President was it?
Q2) More to the point, the Memorial is dedicated to the third US President.   Who was he?
Q3) 15th November, 1951, saw rebels attack a rubber plantation: in which (then) Asian nation?
Q4) Francisco Pizarro arrived in the capital of the Incan Empire: on 15th November, 1533.   That city is now in Peru.   What city is it?
Q5) The Free City of Danzig was established: on 15th November, 1920.   That city is now called what?
Q6) Finally … 15th November, 2012, saw Xi Jinping named as the General Secretary of the Communist Party: of where?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) Prince Charles was born: on 14th November, 1948.   As heir to the UK throne, he’s Prince of where?
A1) Wales.
Q2) He’s also Duke of where: Rothesay or Cornwall?
A2) Both of them.
Q3) In a similar vein … Which member of the Royal Family got married: on 14th November, 1973?
Q4) 14th November, 1930, saw the birth of professional English wrestler, Shirley Crabtree, Jr.   How was he better known?
A4) Big Daddy.
Q5) Moby Dick was first published: on 14th November, 1851.   Who’s the narrator of the story?
A5) Ishmael.
Q6) Finally … The Mariner 9 probe went into orbit around its target planet: on 14th November, 1971.  Which planet?
A6) Mars.
I’ll leave you with this thought …
“The minute you send your kids to boarding school, it’s the end of your relationship with them — it’s like them leaving home.   That’s going to happen at 18, I don’t want it to happen at seven.”
Dom Joly, born 15th November, 1968.
And this song …

Have a good day.

And remember … don’t bank with Tesco … !

*        You’re right there, Olga: sometimes it’s easier to build a series, than not.   Saying that?   I seem to remember  reading an interview with Terry Pratchett.   Where he said the Discworld had been criticised for being escapist.   He felt that was unjustified: as he felt his fans were escaping to the Disc, rather than from something else.   I seem to recall he made the same point about Star Trek and EastEnders.   I think, sometimes, it’s about letting people see what Dot Cotton and Ian Beale are up to …

†        I thought I’d be kind, Debbi: technically, Prince Charles is Duke of both Rothsay AND Cornwall!   Nice to have a title or two!   And I still get the odd DVD: I picked the box set of season one of Mr Robot, recently.   I just won’t be watching it on a DVD player!   Oh … That wasn’t Marvin’s first song.   I just went for Marvin, I Love You, because it’s a bit less … well … depressing …

I think Sir Terry had a point. Characters and places become part of life (like family) when you get into a series. I hope the job keeps going well (it's always a learning process, otherwise it gets very boring).

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
