Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 6-11-2016

Ay … ay ay …

That better be worth it … !

I’ve recently started a new job: in a call centre in Chelmsford.

Last night … ?

I got asked if I could stay half an hour later: which I was notionally happy to do.

You know how it goes, new job, you want to look happy to co-operate …

I wish I hadn’t now.

With replacement buses operating, instead of the trains?

It meant I finally got home at ten to one: and to bed ten minutes later.

And got back up, today: to go back in for another eight hour shift.

Not that I’m complaining TOO much.   The extra half hour’s pay will buy Jude something for Christmas.

But, ye gods …

I think I’m going to put my foot down, the next time I’m asked … !

But let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with both scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) 6th November, 1944, saw Plutonium first produced: at the Hanford Atomic Energy site.   The site is on the Columbia River: and in which US state?
Q2) More to the point, what’s Plutonium’s atomic number?
Q3) Tammy Baldwin was elected to the US Senate: on 6th November, 2012.   She was the first openly what to be elected to the Senate: openly gay person, left-handed person or disabled person?
Q4) 6th November, 1991, saw the death of actress, Gene Tierney.   In which 1943 film did she play Martha Strable?
Q5) 6th November, 1957, saw the birth of actress, Lori Singer.   In which TV series did she play Julie Miller?
Q6) Finally … 6th November, 1789, saw Pius 6th appoint John Carroll as the first Catholic bishop of what’s now which country?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) In the UK, 5th November is Guy Fawkes Night.   It marks the Gunpowder Plot of which year: 1604, 1605 or 1606?
A1) 1605.
Q2) Jaffer Sharif-Emami stepped down as Prime Minister: on 5th November, 1978.   As Prime Minister of where?
A2) Iran.
Q3) Sidney Reilly was executed on 5th November, 1925.   Reilly was working as a British what, at the time?
A3) Spy.
Q4) 5th November, 1991, saw the death of newspaper magnate, Robert Maxwell.   He went overboard: and drowned in which ocean?
A4) The Atlantic.
Q5) Finally … who was elected as US president: on 5th November, 1912?
I’ll leave you with this thought …
“Expect the best. Prepare for the worst. Capitalize on what comes.”
Zig Ziglar, November 6, 1926 – November 28, 2012.
And this song …

Have a good day.

*        That’s a thought, Olga: have you caught Westworld, at all?   The TV series?   I’m curious about it, but wondering whether it’d be worth my while …

†        Yep: know the shape of THAT one, Debbi!   (Oh, git the next series of The Strain, downloading: interesting to see David Bradley NOT playing Cohen the Barbarian, or William Hartnell …)

Q4) Heaven Can Wait (She was gorgeous. I remember her in Laura, a fabulous film.)
    Q5) Fame (What memories!)
    Q6) United States
No, I haven't. I was talking about it with some friends a few weeks back and they were wondering the same but hadn't caught up with it either. I suspect feelings might depend on how fond one is of the original...
Half an hour delay can turn into a nightmare when transport is complicated. Where I live now, at certain times or even days you need a car or have to rely on taxis (there's no way to get anywhere early on a Sunday morning, for instance).

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
