Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 7-12-2016

Oh, that’s another sad piece of news.

Actor, Peter Vaughan, has died: at the age of 93.

Although he’s best known — these days — for playing playing Aemon Targaryen in Game of Thrones, I grew up watching both Porridge, where he played Genial Harry Grout, and Charlie Johnson, in the first two series of Citizen Smith.

Frankly?

I think he’s going to be much missed.

But let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Debbi* putting in her answers: scoring four out of five in the process.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video

Q1) The Daviess County Savings Association was robbed: on 7th December, 1869.   By a gang which included which now notorious gang-leader?
Q2) The first state to ratify the US Constitution, did so on 7th December, 1787.   Which state was it?
Q3) 7th December, 1979, saw the UK name Lord Soames as the new Governor General of what was Southern Rhodesia.   Southern Rhodesia is now called what?
Q4) The Akatsuki probe entered the orbit of its target: on 7th December, 2015.   What is that target?
Q5) Finally … A and M Records began a court case: on 7th December, 1999.      Who were they suing for copyright infringement?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) The first edition of the Encyclopædia Britannica was published.   On 6th December of which year?
A1) 1768.
Q2) It’s first editor was William … who?
A2) William Smellie.   (People used to accuse the late Sir Terry Pratchett of making up silly names for his Discworld novels.  Apparently, though?   There’s at least one Weatherwax in the New York Phone Book.)
Q3) Which plant has been used as the Encyclopædia’s logo for many years?
A3) A thistle.
Q4) How many volumes are there: in the book’s index?
A4) Two.
Q5) Finally … The most recent print edition is which version: the 13th, 14th or 15th?
A5) The 15th.
I’ll leave you with this thought …
“One who pays some attention to history will not be surprised if those who cry most loudly that we must smash and destroy are later found among the administrators of some new system of repression.”
Noam Chomsky, born December 7, 1928.
And this tune …

Have a nice day …

*        It WAS pretty silly, wasn’t it, Debbi?   I THINK the same chap has a minor role in War Games, but don’t quote me!   (Actually, I don’t think it is, I’ve just had a look.   Still … HAD me wondering … )

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.

*   I know many value their online privacy. I respect that. But hope you respect my wish to see who’s commenting on my blog: and my wish for you to introduce your self to me, and to your fellow commentors.
