Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 9-12-2016: Soap and Flannel

You know, I’m thinking something, right now.

I’m thinking that, in Good Omens, Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman’s joint novel, Death himself says to a dying character, “DON’T THINK OF IT AS DYING.   THINK OF IT AS LEAVING EARLY TO AVOID THE RUSH.”

I note that my favourite author died in March, 2015.

And missed dying in 2016.

Which has seen a lot of celebrity death: a rush, if you will.

Yesterday … ?

Saw the death of Senator John Glenn, the first American to orbit Earth, and the oldest man to do a mission on the Space Shuttle.

And also of musician, Greg Lake, founder member of King Crimson, and of Emrson Lake and Palmer: and write/performer of possibly the angriest Christmas song ever written.

They’re going to both be missed.

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Debbi* putting in her answers: scoring 4 out of five in the process.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) 9th December saw the first broadcast of the world’s longest running soap.   In which year of the 1960s?
Q2) The show is broadcast on what was Britain’s third to air terrestrial channel.   Which channel is it: BBC1, BBC 2 or ITV?
Q3) The show was originally going to be called what: Florizel Street, Albion Market or Eldorado?
Q4) William Roche has been in the show, ever since that first episode.   What’s the name of his character?
Q5) His character married Deidre.   Twice.   Deidre was played by whom?
Q6) The show’s one pub was originally run by a character called Annie Walker: played by Doris Speed.   What’s the name of the pub?
Q7) Name either of the characters who currently own the pub.
Q8) The series is set in a fictional part of Salford.   Called what?
Q9) Ronnie Hunt had a keynote role in the series.   He did what: wrote the original scripts, recorded the theme tune or was the show’s creator?
Q10) Finally … what TV show are we talking about?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 8th December — in the Roman Catholic Church — marks the Feast of the Immaculate Conception.   Marking the day when Jesus was conceived.   What was the name of Jesus’s mother?
A1) Mary.
Q2) The Anglican version of the Feast is marked on the same day.   What’s the name of THAT feast?
Q3) 8th December is ALSO Bodhi Day: in Japan.   It marks the Enlightenment of Siddhārtha Gautama: also known as whom?
A3) Buddha.
Q4) The Day of Finnish Music is celebrated on 8th December.   Which Finnish composer’s birthday does it also mark?
A4) Jean Sibelius’s.
Q5) Finally … 8th December saw the birth of Doors frontman, Jim Morrison.   In which year?
A5) 1943.
I’ll leave you with this thought …
“Soap opera seems to be a dirty word, but actually they are the most popular shows we have.”
Dan Stevens.
And a BIG clue … !

Have a nice day …

*        Phew is possibly understating it, Debbi†!   Here’s hoping more rehab helps!   (Oh … I’ve done me own vocals for the 18th and 19th of December’s Teasers.   Lord knows why … !)

†        Had figured it’d be the hand!   as you managed to put in more campaign work … ?

It's a pretty weird week here. Two holidays in the week and we're supposed to have some work done in the house today (well, the fibre was supposed to be installed last week and it didn't happen, so we'll see. So far they haven't turned up). Take care.

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
