Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 16-1-2017

Well, that was the early night had …

I have to admit, there’s days — like yesterday — when I really feel a night in — or lie in, in the morning — is just the thing.

Which I’ve — effectively — managed to do, today.

After getting to bed, last night?   At about eleven.

Frankly?   Well, I don’t know about you, but I had the finale of Sherlock on, whilst I was writing.

And … ?

Hmmm …

Interesting little episode, that: dead supervillains, live supervillains, half a ton of violin playing, explosions, video recordings of Moriarty …

And the unveiling of a third Holmes sibling, Eurus Holmes.

Talk about an interesting twist.

Eurus is the missing Holmes family psychotic.

Like I say … interesting …

Now …

Does anyone else think Andrew Scott’s take on Moriarty comes over like Graham Norton’s evil twin … ?

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw both Olga* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with both scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?   Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) 16th January, 2006, saw Ellen Johnson Sirleaf sworn in: as President of where?
Q2) Phillip 2nd became King of Spain: on 16th January, 1556.   He was Phillip the what: Proverbial, Prudent or Precise?
Q3) The first Spanish grammar — the rules of the language — were presented to the Queen, on 16th January, 1492.   Which Queen?
Q4) The League of Nations held its first council meeting: on 16th January, 1920.   In which city?
Q5) Finally … Which Italian family were named as Papal bankers: on 16th January, 1412?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) Die Afrikaans Patriot was first published on 15th January, 1876.   The paper was the first published in which language?
A1) Afrikaans.

Q5) Finally … The Pentagon was formally dedicated: on 15th January, 1943.   The building is the HQ of which US government department?
A5) The Department of Defense.
I’ll leave you with this …
“The truth is always something that is told, not something that is known. If there were no speaking or writing, there would be no truth about anything. There would only be what is.”
Susan Sontag, January 16, 1933 – December 28, 2004.
And this tune …

Have a good day …

*        Bloody hell, assaulted!   I hope the local police‡ manage to catch whoever did it, Olga!   At ANY rate, I could do with that wrench: there’s always something you can use them on, and they’re not that hard.   Even to a layman like me.   (I used to work in the pub-trade for years: and manage to buy a pair for at least two pubs I worked in.   They’re THAT handy, when you’re changing a real ale barrel.

†        I certainly hope so, Debbi!   (Oh, I mentioned the adjustable wrench to Olga: I’ve ALSO got a copy of They Shoot Horse, Don’t They? on the way.   I’ve got more piles of movies, too!)

‡        Bizarrely?   The simple fact I’ve used the word, police, got me thinking of the word, fuzz, an old slang term for the force.   Which got me thinking of the band, We’ve got A Fuzzbox and We’re Gonna Use It.   Pink Sunshine is now ear worming through my head …

I remember the time when 11 pm used to be late for me too. The last 3 1/2 years, I've been working until 11:30 pm, sometimes 1:30 am, if I'm lucky enough to get overtime.

I made the mistake of drinking coca cola, too late in the night, and yesterday I was up til 7 am. Yikes! Got to get back on a schedule of getting to bed by at least 4 am.

I have a day off tomorrow, which is great! I hate Mondays! lol

  3. Q1) Liberia
    Q2) The Prudent
Q3) Isabel I (Isabel the Catholic Queen. Isabella I think might be known us. A momentous year. Reconquered Granada, got to America… Busy, busy!)
    Q4) Paris
    Q5) The Medici (Fascinating family)
Yes, they came to my rescue and physically removed the assailant from me. It was midday and I imagine somebody must have seen us.
Now, too many spoilers about Sherlock. I'm not in the UK, so of course I couldn't watch it. Although I quite agree with the comment about Moriarti.

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
