Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 19-1-2017

Hmmm …

That’s … sad …

I’ve found out my Uncle Ray died, yesterday …

I’m …

Well, I’m not grieving, per se.

Which will sound strange, I know.

But I never actually got to know Uncle Ray as well as I could: I was never especially close to his end of the family.

I think that’s the loss I’m feeling.

Not so much the loss of a family member.

But the loss of a family member I never had the chance to know better.

But let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Trevor*, Olga† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with Trevor and Olga scoring four out of five, and Debbi scoring five.   (However, Trevor and Olga do make the very good point that Winnie the Pooh — the character — was named after a teddy owned by Milne’s son: in turn, named after Winnipeg, a black bear at London Zoo.)

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video

Q1) 19th January, 1839, saw the British East India Company company capture which port?
Q2) 19th January, 1915, saw Georges Claude patent the advertising version of what: the rotisserie, the neon tube or the billboard?
Q3) Belinda and Kymberley were taken into care: on 19th January, 2001.   The twins had been adopted, through what: mail, container ship, or the Internet?
Q4) You Nazty Spy was released, on 19th January, 1940.   the film satirized Adolf Hitler: and starred which comedy team?
Q5) Finally … Apple released the first commercial computer to use a graphical user interface: on 19th January, 1983.   What was that computer?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) 18th January, 1882, saw the birth of writer, A. A. Milne, author of the Winnie the Pooh books.   What exactly was Winnie?
A1) A teddy bear.
Q2) Six environmentalist groups join protest against the Newbury Bypass: on 18th January, 1996.   Newbury, and the bypass, were in which English county?
A2) Berkshire.
Q3) 18th January, 2002, saw the end of the civil war: in Sierra Leone.   Sierra Leone is on which continent?
A3) Africa.
Q4) Hurricane Kyrill hit the UK on 18th January of which year: 2003, 2005 or 2007?
A4) 2007.
Q5) Finally … 18th January, 2016, saw the death of singer-songwriter, Glenn Frey.   Which US band had he been a member of?
A5) The Eagles.
Here’s a thought …
“Obedience to lawful authority is the foundation of manly character.”
R. E. Lee, January 19, 1807 – October 12, 1870.
And a tune …

Have a good day.

*        Morning, Trevor!   Say hello to Olga and Debbi, would you … ?

†        Welcome back, Olga!   Would you believe it, the wrench has turned up — which means I can fix the washing machine — but the teapot hasn’t!   Thanks, Amazon!   (Oh, just in case you DIDN’T know, Trevor’s a returning regular.)

‡        Oh, my pleasure, Debbi!   They’s all in glorious 1080, so you know!   I’ll see if I can’t send over something else, as well … !   (Oh, Trevor left his answers, so you know.   )   Oh, by the way …

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
