Q1)The Eiffel Tower officially opened: on March 31st, 1889. It officially became taller than the Chrysler Building, in 1957. When what was put on the Tower’s top?
Q2)The Nuit débout movement — a European equivalent to the US Occupy movement — started on 31st March, 2016. In which European country?
Q3)CND started a protest march: on 31st March, 1972. Where to: Aldermaston, Burton-upon-Trent or Cromer?
Q4)31st March is Freedom Day. In which Mediterranean nation?
Q5)Finally … 31st March is the Feast day of Saint Balbina. She’s usually portrayed holding what: chains, a dagger or a comb?
Q4)He left his first band, after they had their first hit. What was it: Pictures of Lily, For Your Love or Crossroads?
A4)For You Love. (Pictures of Lily was a hit for The Who: Crossroads was a hit for Cream.)
Q5)When he left his first band, Clapton was replaced by whom: Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck or Keith Richards?
A5)Jeff Beck. (Page, Beck and Clapton never played together in The Yardbirds: although they DID do play benefit gigs, together.)
Q6)Eric earned the nickname, ‘God,’ after a fan spray-painted the phrase ‘Clapton is God,’ outside which London station: Islington, Tottenham Court Road or Elephant and Castle?
Q8)One of Clapton’s best known songs — Layla — was recorded with Derek and the Dominoes. The song all about Clapton’s love affair with Patti Boyd: the wife of which Beatle?
Q9)Clapton’s most colourful guitar is called The Fool: and known for its psychedelic paint job. It’s what model of guitar: a Fender Stratocaster, a Gibson SG or a Martin Dreadnought?
A9)A GibsonSG. He used a Fender Strat in his early days with The Yardbirds: indeed, his favourite current guitar is a Strat called Blackie. Clapton favours various ooo models made by Martin, when using acoustic guitars.
Q10)Finally … Clapton has repeatedly said one blues musician has been his biggest influence. Which blues musician: BB King, Hubert Sumlin or Robert Johnson?
A10)RobertJohnson. Johnson is — arguably — one of the most influential musicians of all times: despite dying in 1938, at the age of 27. Crossroads, by Cream, and Sweet Home Chicago, by the Blues Brothers, are two of the best known covers of Johnson’s work. I also believe that the Fun Lovin’ Criminals listed the riff for Fun Lovin’ Criminals from Clapton’s version of Crossroads. Various versions of Love in Vain, and Hellhound on my Trail are others. Accounts differ as to how Johnson died: and where he’s buried.
As I’ve mentioned Robert Johnson in yesterday’s answers?
I’ll also raise some hair …
And leave you with a song co-written by Angus Young …
Have a good day.
* Oh, I stopped doing them, about a year and a half ago, Olga. I got replaced … by adverts … That’s the Gazette’s new owners for you. Hope the show goes well!
† Wouldn’t’ve minded seeing that, Debbi! And don’t you just wish you could’ve downloaded it?

I've ordered a new battery for my phone. It's quite old (and I bought it second hand already) but I'm reluctant to get rid of it without trying the battery at least (I don't use my phone much but these days it can be handy for tickets and travelling...) I hope your day at work is not too bad.
I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?
I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.
Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.
Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.
Thank you.

Indeed! It was amazing. I've also had an amazing day at the Annapolis Film Festival!
ReplyDeleteI have to say it took me by surprise to see that iconic Patrick McGoohan Prisoner photo when I tuned into the webinar! :)
