Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 10-4-2017

Hmmm …

It’s the 10th of April.

Which you’d possibly worked out, by looking at the title at top of the post.

Frankly?

That means it’s almost the 15th April.

Saturday, in other words.

Yes, I know I’m working that day.

But you can bet a body part I’ll be recording the opening episode of a series 10 of Dr Who.

I’ll make a confession, here, though.

I was tempted to write taping, there, rather than recording.

You can tell I’m showing my age, there …

Hmmm …

I’ve got Radio 4’s Today programme on, in the background.

John Humphrys has just informed us that the governments of Russia and Iran have announced that — were the US to launch more air-strikes on Syria — they would respond.

Forcefully.

I’m not getting any younger: and I’m used to World Wars One and Two being history, and World War Three — or the idea of it — being science fiction.

I’m hoping we don’t wind up being involved WW3.

I’d rather the situation turned into the Cuban Missile Crisis: and blew over.

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with both scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) 10th April, 2016, saw a magnitude 6.6 earthquake strike.   The ’quake was centred on the village of Ashkasham.   Village, ’quake and epicenter, are in which country?
Q2) The United Nations Security Council passed Resolution 45: on 10th April, 1948.   Who did this admit as a UN member?
Q3) The charter for the Virginia Company of London was signed: on 10th April, 1606.   By which English King?
Q4) What Canal re-opened on 10th April, 1957: the Grand Union, Panama or Suez?
Q5) Finally … 10th April, 1972, saw American bombers, bomb where: North Vietnam, South Vietnam or Northern Korea?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) 9th April is the Day of the Finnish Language.   Suomi is spoken in Finland.   And an official minority language, where: the UK, Sweden, or Russia?
A1) Sweden.
Q2) Roughly one hundred flying pickets were arrested: on 9th April, 1984.   During a strike by whom: miners, fishermen or teachers?
A2) Miners.
Q3) Ironically, the band, the Flying Pickets had a big hit, in the early 1980s.   With an a cappella version of which song?
A3) Only You‡.   (It’s the better version, I think: although Alison Moyet’s the better singer!)
Q4) The Astrodome opened: on 9th April, 1965.   The stadium is in which Texan city?
A4) Houston.
Q5) Finally … Queen Margaret was born: on 9th April, 1283.   She was also know as the Maid of where?
A5) Norway.   (She was Queen from the age three: and died at the age of seven.   I know royalty do things differently, but …)
I’ll leave you with this thought …
“For me, snowboarding is basically like being beaten up by a mountain.”
Ed Byrne, born 10th April, 1972.
This song …

And a reminder that today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Daily Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        Oh, I know, Olga: it’s ALWAYS good when you don’t end up waiting longer or paying more.   It probably helps that Catrina, who runs the shop, and Lucy — their laptop repair person — both ate at KFC when I worked there.   Pointing out the deals on cheap fried chicken possibly left a good impression!   (You know, I’d swear I’ve used Robeson’s cut of Ol’ Man River for a Teaser: blowed if I can remember when, though.)

†        You know, that’s another tune I’m going to have to look up, Debbi!   I DO know I’m thinking I should get Discreet Music … once the payrise turns up, and I can afford some more albums on iTunes … !

‡        Personally?   I believe that’s cue for a song or two.   My question?   How did a small group of left wing activists managed to turn a fantastic pop tune into an even more fantastic piece of church music, and Christmas Number one?

Amazing, indeed. Just a question, I'm sure you've done more than one Easter themed teasers but I said last week during the radio programme that I'd talk about Easter. It's on Thursday. Just wondering if you remember any good stories... (I'll do some research anyway but no time today).
    Be well!

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
