Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 31st March, 2018

31st March, 2018.

Yep: it’s officially official.

I’ve finished series two of The Man in the High Castle.

I think I’m right: that’s a series that — despite drifting away from the original Dick novel — still has an engrossing story to tell, characters that are well drawn — several times — and a nasty twist at the end.

One that will get one of the show’s protagonists?   Getting nastier.

And frankly?

Means I’m going to looking forward to more.

Something els I managed to do?

Is update my Mac!

I’m now using a machine running macOS 10·13·4: which is possibly more information than you wanted.

But?   Frankly, I’d forgotten how (mildly) nerve-wracking a late night update could be.

Will it take?   Will it be TOO big for my drive?   Will a grand’s worth of desktop explode?   Will Chelmsford explode?   Am I going to run out of space?   On an external drive?   Did that man just run past my window, stark naked, waving a trolley?

Was I a bit nervous about it?

You couldn’t tell, could you … ?

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with both scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) 31st March, 1809, saw the birth of noted European writer, Nikolai Gogol.   He was born in what’s now where: Serbia, Ukraine or Poland?
Q2) 31st March, 1986, was the last day of operation of the Greater London Council.   Who was the Council’s last leader?
Q3) 31st March is the Feast day of Saint Balbina.   She’s usually portrayed holding what: chains, a dagger or a comb?
Q4) The Nuit débout movement — a European equivalent to the US Occupy movement — started on 31st March, 2016.   In which European country?
Q5) Finally … CND started a protest march: on 31st March, 1972.   Where to: Aldermaston, Burton-upon-Trent or Cromer?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

A1) Toothache.
Q2) The Conservative party of the UK caused mild controversy on 30th March, 1978: in the run up to the General Election.   By hiring what: prostitutes, ad-men or off duty police officers?

Q3) 30th March, 1914, saw the birth of blues musician, Sonny Boy Williamson 1st.   What instrument did he play?

Q5) Finally?   Sir William Crookes announced his discovery of Thallium: on 30th March, 1861.   Thallium is what: a metal or a non-metal?
A5) A metal.
Here’s some last words …
“I shall laugh my bitter laugh.”
The self penned epitaph on the tombstone of Nikolai Gogol, 31 March, 1809 – 4 March, 1852.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        That it is, Olga‡.   Still … onwards and upwards, I think.   It’s Stephen Hawking’s funeral today: and if he’s not inspirational … ?   At ANY rate … ?   Have fun with the move.   If you find a roll of new £50 notes in a rubber band, it’s my rubber band … !!!

†        Trust me, I’m hanging, Debbi‡!   Just not literally!   Oh … I’m thinking I’ve time for a movie, tonight: The Third Man looks interesting: The Man in the High Castle’s got me thinking let’s look for Cold War drama …

‡        Got to admit, I’ve been toying with the new version of iMovie, on this machine: I can add slides into it, as well as just photos.   If you watch today’s for example?   There’s a slide that says ‘Have A Good Day.’   Some of the upcoming ones?   I’m getting a bit … you know … self-deprecatingly surreal … !

I'm pleased everything went well with the computer and I hope you find something interesting to watch. Not long to go for me here, but still trying tidy up. (Yesterday I managed to pack my clothes, forgetting the little detail that I must wear something between now and when I go...). ;)

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
