Q3)The war was one of the last to take place in the Roman … what?
A3)Roman Republic: it was the event that led to changing the Republic into the Empire.
Q4)One side in the war — the Populares — were led by Caesar. The other side, the Optimates, were led by Pompey the Great: and were, in theory, loyal to the Roman … what?
“Winston had nothing to do with the Lottery, which was managed by the Ministry of Plenty, but he was aware (indeed everyone in the party was aware) that the prizes were largely imaginary.”
* According to that Lincolnshire Poacher video, and the talk section of the Wikipedia entry? The Poacher’s now on the phone. According to one reference? It’s moved to THIS number …
† Looks like Nellie’s a problem, Olga. You know, if Noël Coward were still around …
‡ Five out of five for that lot, @Badwolf: I think you don’t have to worry too much!
^ It IS handy, isn’t it, Debbi? Oh, I’ve got a set about Popeye, coming up soon: it’s a ten question job, I’m afraid! (Mind you, I’ve another one about Django Reinhardt coming up: he had a dodgy fretting hand …)
Q1) 1566 Q2) Queen Elizabeth I Q3) The Virginia Company of London Q4) Numbers Q5) Camelot (I could not resist including this, although as many have said, it’s Richard Harris… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZc2PNoCM2w) Oh, Noel Coward always had something suitable to say… One wonder what kind of song he would have written about Brexit!
I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?
I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.
Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.
Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.
Thank you.
* I know many value their online privacy. I respect that. But hope you respect my wish to see who’s commenting on my blog: and my wish for you to introduce your self to me, and to your fellow commentors.
