Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 23-4-2019: Saint George’s Day.

23rd April, 2019.

Right …

Did you watch the end of today’s intro video?

Well … ?

Have you yawned … ?

Sorry, I can never resist point out that yawning is — generally — contagious!

At any rate … ?

I had a bit of a late night, last: watching the Jack Nicholson film that is One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.

It has to be said: sometimes, it’s only when we re-watch these things, we realise quite how powerful they are!

~≈§≈~

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Badwolf*, and Debbi† putting in their answers: with both scoring nine out of ten.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) 23rd April is Saint Georges Day.   The saint was a member of which Roman military force: the Scholae Palatinae, the Praetorian Guard or the Speculatores?
Q2) The first mention of Saint George’s day in England is by which famous monk?
Q3) In the 15th century, William Caxton published a version of Saint George’s encounter with what?
Q4) There’s a Church of Saint George, in Lalibela.   Church and town is in which country?
Q5) Saint George is the patron saint of which Catalan city?
Q6) The town of Saint George is on an island in the Bering Strait.   That means it’s in which US state?
Q7) During the 1990s, the Saint George ad … advertised which soft drink?
Q8) The Saint George’s Defence is used in what: US law, military tactics or chess?
Q9) Saint George’s Channel connects the Atlantic to what?
Q10) Finally … ?   The Church of Saint George the Martyr is in which part of London: Stockwell, Shepards’s Bush or Southwark?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) Jack Nicholson was born on 22nd April.   Of which year?
A1) 1937.
Q2) His first film appearance was in 1958’s The Cry Baby Killer.   Who directed The Cry Baby Killer?
A2) Joe Addis.
Q3) In which 1960 film did Nicholson play Wilbur Force … ?
Q4) His breakthrough movie was the 1969, Peter Fonda/Denis Hopper movie, called … what … ?
Q5) Nicholson appears in the 1972 film, The King of Marvin Gardens.   It takes its name — in part — from Marven Gardens: a property in the US version of which game?
A5) Monopoly.
Q6) Jack played Randle McMurphy in One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest.   Who played McMurphy’s nemesis, Nurse Ratched?
A6) Louise Fletcher.   (I know her as Kai Winn: possibly the slimiest politician you’re going to meet.   The film earned both Nicholson and Fletcher an Oscar.)
Q7) How many Best Actor Oscars has Nicholson won?
A7) Two.   (One for One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest, the other for As Good as It Gets.)
Q8) In which film does’s Nicholson’s character say “You can’t handle the truth!”?
Q9) Jack plays Jack Napier in which Tim Burton movie?
A9) Batman: he’s the Joker, in other words.
Q10) Finally?   In which film do we here Jack’s most famous line, “Here’s Johnny”?
A10) The Shining.
Here’s a thought …
“England will still be England, an everlasting animal stretching into the future and the past, and, like all living things, having the power to change out of recognition and yet remain the same.”
George Orwell.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        Morning, Badwolf‡^: how’s today?

†        It crops up, occasionally, Debbi‡^!   Dune’s another example: the Fremen are basically Muslim: with touches of Zen!   As for President Trump?   Radio 4 has a trailer they’re using at the mo: where the President says “Our immigration laws are a laughing stock.”   I keep yelling “No, it’s the president that’s the laughing stock … ”   (I’ll keep me eyes peeled!)

‡        Just so you both know?   Nicholson’s been nominated for twelve Oscars.   He’s won two Best Actor gongs: one each for One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest and As Good as It Gets.   He got a Best Supporting Actor gong for Terms of Endearment.

^        Oh … we have at least one Spanish question, one American and one from North East England … just so everyone knows …

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
