Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 22-6-2019: Jo Cox.

22nd June, 2019.

I have to admit, I’m a little obsessive, sometimes.

And … ?

Usually don’t start watching a film or TV show, after 8·30.

I have to admit, that’s a rule I broke, last night …

Starting on the 2018 film, Prospect.

I just could not concentrate!

And gave up after about twenty minutes: which is rather hard on the thing, as it does look an interestingly watch.

Hmmm …

I think I may just have another go …

At a another date …

~≈§≈~

Do you remember that — a while ago, now — the government were due to introduce age checks to access pornography?

Something that’s possibly easy to get around, if you have a copy of TorBrowser.

Well … it seems the (delayed) introduction, moved from last April, to 15th July, this year … ?

Is being delayed, again: to some point, six months from now.

Personally?

At one point, ICANN, the organisation that runs the ’Net, were trying to introduce a Top Level Domain name — the three letter extension at the end of a website’s link, things like .gov, .com or .org — were trying to push through a top level domain — xxx  — specifically for porn sites.

It didn’t work.

The adult entertainment industry objected.

Forcing ICANN to make it voluntary.

That’s a shame: setting up parental controls would have been easier if it had been involuntary.

And the government’s job.

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Anne*, Olga†, and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with Debbi and Olga scoring ten out of ten, and Anne on nine.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) 22nd June, 1974, saw the birth of the late MP, Jo Cox.   Which party did she represent?
Q2) Which constituency did she represent?
Q3) She was killed by far-right extremist, Thomas Mair, during a British referendum to leave what?
Q4) As a sentence?   Her killer got what’s called a whole life … what?
Q5) Finally … ?   Jo Cox was killed in which year?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) 21st June is Go Skateboarding Day.   Skateboarding itself, has its origins in which US state?
A1) California.
Q2) It’s a derivation of which sport?
A2) Surfing.
Q3) Early skateboard wheels were made of clay, or metal.   Most modern skateboard wheels are made from what: wood, clay or polyurethane?
A3) Polyurethane.   (If I recall the extras on the Lord of the Rings blu-rays, correctly?   The handles of the swords had a polyurethane core that acted as shock absorbers.)
Q4) The wheels are attached to a board.   That board is usually called a … what?
A4) Deck.
Q5) The wheels and board are usually both attached to which ‘T’?
A5) The truck.
Q6) Vans — the company — are noted for making … what?
A6) Skate shoes.
Q7) The 1970s saw the introducing of a version of skateboarding introduced: that involved laying on your back, on a skateboard, and riding downhill.   It’s called street … what?
A7) Street luge.
Q8) Many skateboarders will skate on the street.   Others will do what’s called vert skateboard: on half … whats?
A8) Half pipes.
Q9) What’s usually longer: a penny board, skate board or longboard?
A9) A longboard.
Q10) Finally … ?   Who’s the celebrity skateboarder with a well known line of video games: Tony Hawk, or Tony Hawks?
A10) Tony Hawk.   Comedian, Tony Hawks, on the other hand, plays plays tennis.   Against Moldovans.
Here’s a thought …
“I don’t pretend to have all the answers. But despite all of the dangers and difficult judgements that lie ahead, burying our head in the sand is not an option.”
Jo Cox, MP.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        Yeah, I know, Anne: I get those days, myself!   (Oh, it’s street luge: it sounds an bonkers as luge!)

†        Yeah: it’s not doing them any publicity favours, Olga^!   Apparently?   Amazon’s offered to cancel Stranger Things if Netflix cancel Good Omens!   With their tongues in their cheeks.   You say your mother doesn’t rest well?   She sounds a LOT like Jude.   Persuading him to sit still, sometimes … … … …

‡        It’s worth a read, Debbi^, it really is.   Just make sure you get the right publishers … !   (I’ve actually EMAILED the group concerned, I’d love to know what they say.   I’m not expecting an answer … but … )

^        Apparently?   The group concerned also petitioned Wal-mart: to cancel an ice cream that said “Sweet Jesus.”

That group sounds hilarious. My mother is a busy bee, and even when she sits down, in theory to watch a TV programme, she's doing other things as well (she used to crochet although not so much these days). Have a good weekend.

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
