Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 23rd June, 2021

23rd June, 2021.

Yes: it’s official.

I’m off to hospital for a second colonoscopy.

Frankly?

I’m not looking forward to it.

Especially after having to fast, and having the extremely powerful laxative that goes with it.

But … ?

The sooner it’s done, the better.

~≈🧻≈~

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum†, Debbi‡ and Edith^ putting in their answers: with Olga, Debbi and Mum, scoring five out of five, and Edith on four.

The day also saw Trevorª leaving us a message.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1)        Sun Quan named himself emperor of Eastern Wu: on 23rd January, 229AD.   Eastern Wu is now part of which country: India, Thailand or China?

Q2)        The US Senate rejected the Taft-Hartley Act on 23rd June, 1947.   The Act restricted the powers of what: the Police, Unions or the press?

Q3)        23rd June is International what Day: Widow’s Day, Warrior’s Day or Wizard’s Day?

Q4)        NASA’s Space Station Processing Facility opened on 23rd June, 1994.   The Facility built things for what: the Space Shuttle, the International Space Station or the Jamestown Moon Base?

Q5)        23rd June, 1912, saw the birth of computer scientist, Alan Turing.   His face is going to be on a new what: 1st class stamp, £50 note or cheque?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

A1)        1936.

Q2)        Kristofferson went to University, where: Oxford or Cambridge?

Q3)        During his years in the US army, Kristofferson almost taught English literature, where: the US Military Academy at West Point, the US Naval Academy at Annapolis or the US Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs?
A3)        The US Military Academy at West Point.   (The Wikipedia article say he was going to teach English Literature: the interview the article cites says English literacy.)

Q4)        Kristofferson wrote the song, Me and Bobby McGee.   Who had a posthumous hit with Me and Bobby McGee, in 1971: Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison or Janis Joplin?
A4)        Janis Joplin.

Here’s a thought …
“According to my definition, a number is computable if its decimal can be written down by a machine.”
From On Computable Numbers, with an Application to the Entscheidungsproblem, by Alan Turing, 23 June 1912 – 7 June 1954.
If you’re reading this?   It’s because of On Computable Numbers, with an Application to the Entscheidungsproblem.

Here’s a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Feel free to share today’s video Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        Oh, right: gotcha, Olga!   And yeah, that does sound like Jaffa cakes.   I think the difference, there, hinges on whether something goes hard or soft, when it goes stale.
Actually … ?   The fasting’s not been too much of an issue, this time.   The laxative, on the other hand?   Well, I think I’ve ended up with a dehydration headache.
Yes: I did have a word with Piers.   ‘Claim’ was put in by his editor: who was a little worried about any kind of legal issues.   I did manage to tell him I’d contacted Clarion’s repair team about the lock: as whoever he spoke to didn’t seem to know about that.
It’s not just PR.   I think Clarion’s PR left hand doesn’t know what it’s repair team right hand is doing.

†        Hello, Mum!

‡        Well … I don’t know if I’d call it determination, Debbi.   More like annoyance: that an unwanted visitor could still get in.   Oh, Clarion has been in touch about getting me replacement keys …
I’ve just had a look at the Wikipedia entry.   Lincoln City’s coast line looks wild.

^        I’m glad I can help, Edith!   I just hope you like the K. T. Tunstall tune.

ª        The place looks wild, Trevor!

  1. Q1) China (there is a typo in the question, June not January, but otherwise the date is right. I’m sure you have other things in your mind right now).

    Q2) The Unions

    Q3) Widows Day

    Q4) The International Space Station

    Q5) A £50 note
Yes, I think that tends to be the case, that some companies have very poor communication. (On the other hand, I wonder if sometimes they keep the people who talk to the press intentionally uninformed or misinformed, so they can sound convincing when they tell something that is not quite the truth... [It might depend on how senior the person is, and how good at acting they are...])
I know what you mean about fasting. If I don't start eating, I don't usually feel too hungry. But if I start, I find it a bit more difficult to just eat a tiny little bit of something (well, it depends on the food as well). Good luck with the procedure!

  3. You want wild how about this. We stayed a few days in Florence Oregon and just the other side of the river was this.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oregon_Dunes_National_Recreation_Area

We went climbing the dunes and yes we saw Dune buggies.

Notice who got the idea for a book or two from the Dunes.

Paul, that is one song I like. It is the first time I ever saw the video for it before. I enjoyed both the song and the video. Thank you for posting it.

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
