Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 17th March, 2022

17th March 2022.

Right … I’d put in for extra financial help.

You’d possibly worked that out, hadn’t you … ?

Tuesday?   I was due a phone call: to double check on details.

A call that finally took place, yesterday.

The decision finally turned up, last night.

It went against me.

Understably?

I’m starting off the appeals process: with what’s call a Mandatory Reconsideration.

Will it work?

I don’t know.

After all, the Wikipedia entry tells us the success rate for Personal Independence Payments is fifteen percent.

But … ?

I think that — however hard this may be? — it’s worth attempting.

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum† and Debbi‡ and putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video

Q1)        17th March is Saint Patrick’s Day.   Saint Patrick is the patron saint of where: England, Ireland, Scotland or Wales?

Q2)        17th March is the the older feast day of Saint Joseph of where: Arimathea, Jerusalem or Damascus?

Q3)        17th March saw the birth of Nat King Cole.   17th March of which year: 1918, 1919 or 1920?

Q4)        Japanese noble, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, was born on 17th March, 1537.   He was a what: shogun, daimyo or ronin?

Q5)        Finally … ?   17th February, 1948, saw the birth of writer, William Gibson.   In a 1993 interview, he said “The future’s already here — it’s just not very evenly …” what: distributed, cooked or manufactured?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Here’s a thought …
“My first impulse, when presented with any spanking-new piece of computer hardware, is to imagine how it will look in ten years’ time, gathering dust under a card table in a thrift shop.”
William Gibson, 17th February, 1948.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

The quizmaster’s decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Frankly, Olga?   The whole thing’s a bloody mess.   I finally heard from them, yesterday morning: and eventually got turned down.   I’ll be getting the form to start the Reconsideration by 18:00, tomorrow.   I think I’m going to need help: and may just have to pop into the Citizens Advise Bureau.   They could help filling the dratted thing in, at least!
It sounds like you’re going to need the time off … just for dealing with the paperwork and online forms!   Actually, I’ve had online job applications like that: you think you’ve filled in every box required, then get the error message, then spend an extra half an hour finding out which box you’ve missed.   I’m just thankful I don’t get the scalpers you seem to have got!   Either way, say “Bonjour,” to Iman for me!
I got the onions: and the peas!   I’ve got garlic!   Tangerine sized bulbs of the stuff!   And totally forgot to put any in the goulash!
        Arrrghgghh!

        Hello, Mum!

‡        That it is, Debbi!   Did you ever hear of an old role playing game called Paranoia?   It’s sort of Logan’s Run meets Ghostbusters meets Brazil.   It would be funnier … if it wasn’t so spot on, sometimes! (Your character in the game has to hunt down and executive, Commies, Mutants, Secret Society members and Traitors.   They also happens to be a Commie, Mutant, Traitor … who’s in a secret society …)

I'm sorry to hear about their decision, although not surprised. As you say, the positive decisions are few, it seems. But getting some help from the Citizens Advice Bureau sounds like a good idea. And you had said before that you forgot to mention some things when they did the assessment, so, hopefully, they might reconsider.
I'll keep you posted on the VISA front. Fingers crossed!

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
