Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 15th February 2023.

15th February, 2023.

Right … I now, officially, have a box!

With a chair in it!

It’s an early birthday gift: and one I plan to assemble … when I get the chance.

It’s going to be a fiddly job, I think!

I mentioned, yesterday, that my blu-ray drive was having issues.

But, ever since the macOS 13.2 update, it was happily connected to my Mac … but not showing up.

It seems a few others had been getting the issue: and were reporting it on various sites.

Fortunately for me — and, I suspect, anyone else with a Pioneer optical drive — the problem was fixed: by installing the macOS 13.2.1 update.

I suspect the amount of complaints would have got Apple moving to patch the flaw, fast: there’s possibly a lot of customers — movie companies, included — using Mac systems to make preview blu-rays, if nothing else.

Here’s hoping it doesn’t happen, again.

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Olga†, and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with Olga and Debbi scoring five out of five, and Mum on four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        15th February is the Feast day of Saint Sigfrid of where: Sweden, Norway or Finland?

Q2)        15th February is Parinirvana Day.   It’s marked by whom: Muslims, Sikhs or Buddhists?

Q3)        15th February, 2023, is a Wednesday.   The Latin phrase for Wednesday is dies Mercurii.   Which means Day of whom: Jupiter, Mercury or Aphrodite?

Q4)        ENIAC was dedicated on 15th February, 1946.   The world’s first general purpose computer was held where: Jesus College Oxford, the University of Pennsylvania or MIT?

Q5)        Finally … ?   15th February, 1995, saw the birth of Megan Jovon Ruth Pete.   She’s better known as which American rapper: Megan thee Stallion, the Real Roxette or Missy Elliot?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

A1)        Neil Diamond.

Q2)        Love of the Common People was a 1983 hit for whom: Paul Young, Frankie Goes to Hollywood or Captain Elastic’s Plastic Fantastic?
A2)        Paul Young.

Q3)        Break up song, Ain’t No Pleasing You, was a hit for Chas and Dave.   In which year of the 1980s?
A3)        1982.   (That song is a work of music bloody genius: the guys did a job and a half!)

Q4)        Love song, God Only Knows, was in 1966.   By whom: the Doors, the Beatles or the Beach Boys?
A4)        The Beach Boys.

Q5)        Finally … ?   The best known version of I Will Always Love You was performed by Whitney Houston. But it was written by whom: kd lang, Dolly Parton or Reba McIntyre?
A5)        Dolly Parton.
Here’s a thought …
“There are few states, I suppose, which exact so severe a toll from one’s nervous system as the anticipation of calamity.”
From The Insidious Dr. Fu Manchu by Sax Rohmer, 15 February 1883 to 1 June 1959.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum!   (Ain’t No Pleasing You was in 1982, Mum … !)

It got here on time, Olga^,   Now I’ve got to figure out assembling the blessed thing!   (Thankfully?   The software update seems to have solved things.   Phew!)
Apparently, fluoxetine’s technical name is N-methyl-3-phenyl-3-[4-(trifluoromethyl)phenoxy]propan-1-amine.   I’m just glad they picked a pronounceable brand name!

Yeah: the future does that to me, too, Debbi^: every time Jude turns up!   (Cheers, by the way: it’s on March 4th.)

^        Oh, I’ve had a Radio Four show called More or Less, on.   They’ve had the editor of the FT’s Style Guide on.   Apparently, the FT’s changed their rules: to insist that ‘data,’ is singular.

Yes, their choice of names is... I understand chemical names will be complicated, but I remember I always thought "Abilify" was not a very nice name, as if the people taking it weren't able...
Good luck with putting the chair together. Doing it by yourself can be tricky, as I know all too well.

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
