Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 21st January 2025.

21st January, 2025.

I was going to tell you I’d made a point of not watching Donald Trump’s inauguration.

Or mention the theatrical way he signed several Executive Orders.

Mention how he’s pulled the US out of the World Health Organisation, declared a federal emergency on the southern US border, and pardoned the January 6th Rioters.

Mention how pulling out of the WHO may save money: but could certainly affect American lives.

Mention how he’s halted many US government diversity programmes.

Mention how I personally think the man is a bloody idiot.

Or quote a line from Terry Pratchett’s Going Postal*:
“What kind of man would put a known criminal in charge of a major branch of government? Apart from, say, the average voter.”
I won’t, though.

No.

Instead, I’ll have to tell you my boiler’s failed again: and I have to stay in for twenty-four hours, to wait for a repairman.

And that wasting the money that’s on my electricity meter†, boiling water for a bath while I wait?

Means I’m not the only one having a bad day … …

~≈🧐≈~

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum§, Olga¶ and Debbiª putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s [insert number here] questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        21st January is National Hugging Day.   Where: Canada, the USA or Mexico?

Q2)        21st January is the feast day of Saint Fructuosus of Tarragona.   Tarragona is where: Catalonia, Alsace-Lorraine or Bavaria?

Q3)        21st January is Errol Barrow Day, in Barbados.   He’s a former Barbadian what: Chancellor?, Prime Minister or President?

Q4)        Footballer, Emiliano Sala, disappeared on 21st January, 2019.   He disappeared on his way to join which British football team: Burnley, Cardiff City or Coventry City?

Q5)        Finally … ?   Israel withdrew from the Gaza Strip.   On 21st January of which year: 2007, 2009 or 2011?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        The Taula de Canvi began operations: on 20th January, 1401.   In which city?
A1)        Barcelona.   The title translate — assuming Wikipedia is correct — as ‘table of change’.

Q2)        The Taula de Canvi began operations: on 20th January, 1401.   It was a what: a bank, restaurant or job centre?
A2)        A bank.   The two Wikipedia pages I’ve seen describe it as either a ‘public bank’, or a ‘central bank’.

Q3)        The 46th President of the United States was inaugurated: on 20th January, 2021.    Who was he?
A3)        President Joe Biden.

Q4)        Norman Jewison died on 20th January, 2024.   He directed which 1971 musical: Bedknobs and Broomsticks, Fiddler on the Roof or Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory?
A4)        Fiddler on the Roofº.

Q5)        Finally … ?   20th January is Army Day.   Where: Mali, Mauritania or Nigeria?
A5)        Mali.
Here’s a thought …
“That’s what show business is—sincere insincerity.”
Benny Hill, 21 January 1924 – 20 April 1992.
Music composed by Franco Evangelisti …

And an earworm …

The next ten question set is on 29th January: it’s about Desert Island Discs.

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        I went and quoted that line on Mastodon, Bluesky and Twitter/X‡, yesterday.   It’s had some traction on Mastodon!

Anyone who want’s to put money on the meter, would be welcome to, and thanked!

‡        Elon Musk was at the ceremony, yesterday.   His gesture was noticeable: I’m assuming his apartheid-era, Pretoria-born, Nazi sympathies are showing …

§        Hello, Mum!

¶        You know, I don’t think Videodrome was Cronenberg’s first film: just the first to get backing from a big studio.   Scanners was a couple of years earlier.   Apparently, there’s bits of leftover burger in the exploding head: which you probably didn’t want to know!

ª        If you thought Eraserhead was bad, Debbi, you might want to avoid Videodrome!   At any rate?   Good luck with the short: have you got a camera?

º        The film is fantastic.   And “Do You Love Me?” one hell of a tune!

  3. Thanks, Paul! One of the nice things about the arrangement with Charm City is that they provide the equipment. And crew! :)

    1. the USA (though few seem to be observing, even though we should given the circumstances!)

As for Trump and Musk and their wacko cronies, I have no comment. :)

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
