Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 25-1-2025 — Coup d’etat

25th January, 2025: Coup d’etat.

Right, then … I can officially say there was a queue, yesterday: at my local barbers!

But … ?

I managed to get my hair done!

I have to admit, that’s better … !

On other fronts … ?

I’ve finally managed to finish an article I’d been writing: about how to buy a computer*.

You can read it, here.

Or you can just watch the video version I made …

Any feedback would be appreciated!

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum†, Olga‡ and Debbi¶ putting in their answers: with Olga and Debbi scoring five out of five, and Mum on four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        A successful coup took place on 25th January.   In which African nation: Uganda, Kenya or South Africa?

Q2)        Who led that coup: Idi Amin, Nelson Mandela or MK Gandhi?

Q3)        The coup took place in which year of the 1970s?

Q4)        The coup’s leader became what: president, or prime minister?

Q5)        Finally … ?   The coup replaced who as leader: Milton Obote, Robert Mugabe or P. W. Botha?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        24th January saw the death of Winston Churchill. In which year of the 1960s?
A1)        1965.

Q2)        What was the most senior position Sir Winston held in the UK’s government?
A2)        Prime minister.
Q3)        He was born in which year of the 1870s?
A3)        1874.

Q4)        His was the last State Funeral in the UK … until whose?
A4)        Elizabeth 2nd’s.

Q5)        Finally … ? Sir Winston was buried at Saint Martin’s Church in Bladon. Where is Bladon: Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire or Essex?
A5)        Oxfordshire.
Here’s a thought …
“The seizure of power occurred on January 25 while [the over-thrown leader] was attending the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Singapore.”
From the Wikipedia entry on the coup.
And a song …

The next ten question set is on 29th January: it’s about Desert Island Discs.

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        I think I’ve under-stated quite how important back-up, or an internet connection, are.   These days, they’re essential.

        Hello, Mum!

Well … the article — and video — are now up, Olga: the links are at the start of this post.   Whether they’re any help, I don’t know!

Blimey!   That link is giving my browsers’ problems, Debbi: I’m getting a black screen on all of them: including Tor!
Oh, is this any good for someone you know, Debbi?
Talking of songs, Debbi, I’ve got “Never Ever”, the All Saints’ tune, on in the background.   Shazney Lewis was on form when she wrote that one!

  3. I gave it a quick look yesterday. It seems to cover the basics well.

But then, I'm no computer expert. Other than all the stuff I learned back in the 70s and what I picked up in library school (most of which I haven't thought about in ages).

It's been a while since I last saw Repo Man. Love that movie. :)

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.

*   I know many value their online privacy. I respect that. But hope you respect my wish to see who’s commenting on my blog: and my wish for you to introduce your self to me, and to your fellow commentors.
