Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 9th January 2025

9th January, 2025.

You know … it’s Thursday!

And … ?

I’ve honestly got nothing planned.

Well … bar picking up a loaf and some fruit!

And missing Star Trek Lower Decks.

The fact the show’s over does leave a gap in a Thursday night!

I do, however, know I’ve been watching Skeleton Crew: the most recent Disney+ Star Wars series.

Yes, I know it’s aimed at kids.

But it’s fun, has pirates … and, after reaching episode seven, last night?

I still don’t know if the Jude Law character is a goody or a baddie*!

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum†, Olga‡ and and Debbi§ putting in their answers: with Olga and Debbi scoring ten out of ten, and Mum on nine.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        The Feast of the Black Nazarene is held on 9th January.   Where: the Philippines, the Azores or the Canaries?

Q2)        Connecticut joined the USA on 9th January, 1788.   Yale, the state’s best known university, is a member of the what league: Ivy League, Fairy League or Doo-by League?

Q3)        Imelda Staunton was born on 9th January, 1956.   Who does she play in Netflix series, The Crown?   (Be careful how you answer this one … )

Q4)        Muggsy Bogues was born on 9th January, 1965.   At 5’3”, he was the shortest player to play what: baseball, basketball or American Football?

Q5)        Finally … ?   Michael Heseltine resigned his Cabinet position: on 9th January, 1986.   What Cabinet position had he held?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        Elvis Presley was born on 8th January: in which year of the 1930s?
A1)        1935.

Q2)        He was born in which US state?
A2)        Mississippi.

Q3)        He was born in which of that state’s cities: Starkville, Tupelo or Verona?
A3)        Tupelo.

Q4)        Elvis’s debut single was a version of “That’s All Right”.   It was recorded for which label: Sun, Chess Records or Motown?
A4)        Sun.   (The song was written — and originally recorded by — Arthur Big Boy Crudup in 1946.)

Q5)        That debut single was released in which year of the 1950s?
A5)        1954.

Q6)        Whilst recording for that company, Elvis recorded a jam session with three other famous musicians: a group called the ‘Million Dollar Quartet’.   Name one of those three musicians.
A6)        Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins or Johnny Cash.   I would love to own the master tapes of that session: they’d be worth a mint.

Q7)        In his early days, his backing band were the Blue Moon Boys.   The band were D. J. Fontana on drums, Bill Black on double bass, and Scotty Moore on what: guitar, sax or wash board?
A7)        Guitar.   Moore is regarded as one of America’s finest axemen.

Q8)        The Jordanaires worked with Elvis for many years.   They provided what: backing vocals, a string section or a horn section?
A8)        Backing vocals.

Q9)        Colonel Tom Parker was Elvis’s what: manager, chief roady or songwriter?
A9)        Manager.

Q10)        Finally … ?   Elvis was known as the what of rock ’n’ roll: king, queen, prince or jack?
A10)        King.
Here’s a thought …
“Growing up as a kid in inner city of Baltimore, Maryland, the way I played the game, I used to always steal the basketball.”
Muggsy Bogues, born 9th January, 1965.
And a song …

The next ten question set on 29th January: it’s about Desert Island Discs.

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Jude Law’s character killed a friendly robot in last night’s episode.   But is using a blue/white Jedi lightsaber, rather than a red Sith one.   I need to get out more.

Hello, Mum!   (It was Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins, Mum!   Scotty Moore wasn’t there!)

‡        Yeah: it strikes me it’s a tough job, Olga.   I’m betting genre work can be a blessing, there!   And things like the Behind the Sofa watch-alongs can be handy.

§        It sounds like you had a busy day, there, Debbi!

  2. Before I forget, here are the links to the Campament Reial and the parade. There are lots of pics, but I don't appear in too many of them (so that's good!)

    Q1) the Philippines

    Q2) Ivy League

Q3) Queen Elizabeth II (in the 5th and 6th series)

Q4) Basketball (I remember him quite clearly. He would rob the balls from the tall players and sometimes they wouldn’t even see him, as they were only looking in front of them).

    Q5) Defence Secretary

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
