Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 30th May 2025.

30th May, 2025.

Right … it’s officially official.

I’ve asked a few local shops to put up the poster, advertising a laptop for sale.

I owe them — Barry at the Emporium, Connie at the Flying Fish, the Pharmchoice gang and Daniel’s Barbers — a thank you, if nothing else.

Hopefully, that may — may — help.

As the Facebook Marketplace ad doesn’t seem to have picked up anything other than the odd click.

Not even the odd scammer!

Heigh ho!

What was one thing and another … ?

The US President is having trouble.

As various US Courts have ruled against his tariff regime: leaving the things in various states of suspension.

From what I’ve understood?

The rulings hinge on the president overstepping his authority: as some of the tariff raising powers are reserved for the US Congress.

It’s how the US system works, if I’ve got it right: these jobs are done by Congress, those by the Courts, others only by the president.

How much executive authority does a corporate Chief Executive Officer have?

How much can he do in his day-to-day job of running a US company?

I don’t know.

But it struck me, yesterday, that — with the executive orders that he’s issuing — the President is treating his job as if it’s a corporate Chief Executive position: not as a political office, where there’s a different balance of powers.

We’ll have to see …

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Olga† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s five question set, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Here’s a thought …
“People think that writing scripts is like writing books, but it really isn’t.   It’s more like drawing up architectural plans for picky clients.”
Duncan Jones, born 30 May 1971.
And a song …

The next ten question set is on 11th June: it’s about E. T.: The Extraterrestrial

Comments and answers will be published, tomorrow morning.

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum!

I think that’s another question I should’ve phrased better, Olga!
I’ve got my fingers crossed for the posters, Olga.   They may be more helpful than the Facebook advert.   That hasn’t even bagged me a scammer: which is worrying!

That reminds me, Debbi: there’s a few similar discussions about HAL 9000.
(I think I’ve mentioned: that Arthur C. Clarke and Isaac Asimov were friends.   But Clarke coming up with a killer computer was an argument starter for the pair!)

From doing interviews with lots of people I know that sometimes the questions that seem clearer to me aren't always to other people, because evidently I know what I am trying to ask, but other people don't, and, if anything can be interpreted in more than one way, it will probably be.
Mind you. Sometimes I read something or see something that seems abundantly clear to me and then I realise that everybody else seems to have understood it differently, so I wonder if my brain sometimes works differently to other people's.
I hope you get a good result. To be honest, Facebook these days is a low into its own. Half of the time when I try to check something on the phone it assumes that I am trying to hack into my account and tries to make me change passwords every five minutes, so I give up.
I haven't mentioned them, because the birds seem to come for a visit in the morning, and then disappear. I have no idea what's going on.

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
