Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 31st May 2025.
31st May, 2025.
Right …
It’s officially the case I have new slogan t-shirts, and a CD,
The t-shirts … ?
Have images from Atic Atac, the old ZX Spectrum game: I got those, having been inspired by a documentary called The Rubber-keyed Wonder.
It’s only after I went through the design process, and paid for the things, I found the company already did some!
Ho-hum!
~≈🤔≈~
I also managed to get hold of seminal Wendy Carlos LP, Switched-on Bach: generally considered to be the first — or, at least the first popular — album of synthesiser music to be released.
Unfortunately?
Carlos* has never released her music through streaming services: and a lot of her material out of print.
If you want a copy of this LP, an LP that’s considered very influential?
You really have to hunt for it.
~≈🎼≈~
Let’s move on.
Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum†, Olga‡, Debbi§ and Irene¹ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.
Let’s see how everyone does with today’s question set, shall we?
Q1)31st May, 1983, saw the death of Jack Dempsey. He’d been a heavyweight what?
Q2)31st May, 1923, saw the birth of Rainier Grimaldi. He’s better known as the husband of Grace Kelly: and Rainier 3rd of where?
Q3)(285263) 1998 QE₂ made its closest approach to Earth: on 31st May, 2013. What is (285263) 1998 QE₂: a meteor, an asteroid or a comet?
Q4)More to the point? Does (285263) 1998 QE₂ have a moon?
Q5)Finally … ? 31st May, 1938, saw the birth of John Prescott. He’d held which government post: Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister or Foreign Secretary?
* As an incidental point? I have a copy of the soundtrack to A Clockwork Orange: something else that Carlos made. I could’ve sworn I got a digital through iTunes: but is it listed there? Is it, heck!
† Hello, Mum!
‡ I think everyone’s brain’s works differently, Olga! You should know that! 🤣
I’m keeping my fingers crossed on the advert front, I know that. If push comes to shove, I can always take it to the Romford branch of CeX: but I’d get a lot less money!
§ I know this much, Debbi: I would love to be a fly on wall for those discussions. The man behind HAL 9000 arguing with the brain behind the Three Laws? Heinlein would turn up and sue …
¹ Morning, Irene: how IS the day … ?
² By law, you’re not supposed to build on Green belt land. I know what Prescott was trying to say … but he and G. W. Bush were always gaff prone …
Q5) Deputy Prime Minister Very true. I am also convinced I've got things in places that seem to have no record of them. False memories, perhaps? Or faulty records on their part. Did I ever mention that we watched the film 'Kiss me, Deadly' as part of a course, and it had an ending (where everything seemed to blow up, sorry for the spoiler if you have never seen it), but I was convinced I had watched it before and seen a different ending (where after the explosion you could see two silhouettes running on the beach), and didn't understand what was going on. Years later, I caught up with the movie on the telly, in Spain, and there was the ending I remembered. I investigated and, indeed, they had filmed two different endings, and I guess there were different copies available with the two endings.
I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?
I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.
Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.
Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.
Thank you.
* I know many value their online privacy. I respect that. But hope you respect my wish to see who’s commenting on my blog: and my wish for you to introduce your self to me, and to your fellow commentors.
† Your Facebook, X/Twitter, Blogger, Instagram, TikTok or LinkedIn profile are acceptable. I also like seeing folks webpages.
