Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 6-8-2025 — Bolivia

6th August, 2025: Bolivia.

Yay!   It’s Wednesday!

Which, frankly, means I’ve got washing to put away: after my washing machine was fixed, yesterday.

OK, that’s not a very exciting thing to report … but, hey: having clean, dry, towels is nice!

~≈🧺≈~

It’s 6th August: you’re possibly very aware of the fact.

That means it’s the eightieth anniversary of the US atomic bombing of the Japanese city of Hiroshima: with all that that implies.

It reminds me, as it always does, of an old boss of mine: who once told me that he, personally, put the bombings on a par with the Holocaust.

He was from an old British Jewish family, and had grown up during World War Two.

His comparison, comparing the first use of the world’s deadliest weapon to the world’s most inhuman war crimes,  always stuck in my mind.

Especially as it came from a member of Britain’s Jewish community.

The bombings won us the war, ended a truly horrific conflict.

But … ?

Were the bombings moral?

Ethical?

Somehow, and thanks to my old boss?

I don’t think they were …

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Irene†, Olga‡ and Debbi§ putting in their answers: with Irene, Olga and Debbi scoring five out of five, and Mum own four.

From the Wikipedia entry on Bolivia.
And a national anthem …

The next ten question set is the Left-hander’s day quiz on 13th August.

Please mention the day to left handers you meet.

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum!   (It was 1962, Mum, rather than 1961.)

Happy birthday for Friday, Irene!   You should be able to migrant things, easily: if it’s got the same operating system as your current one … !

They’ve even given me a lower charge, Olga: that helped, as well!

§        Timey wifey, wibbly wobbly, Debbi … !   (Timey wifey?   Oy vey!)

  1. That’s a thought, Debbi: you’re on a recent model MacBook, aren’t you … ? Only Sequoia 15·6 has been released: with quite a few security updates …

I saw a documentary, some time ago, about the nuclear bombings in Japan, and how they looked after the survivors, although it seemed to be more about doing research about the effects rather than helping them, and it seems all the images and document from then were not released until recently. It was impressive to see and hear the people talk about it, both sides, the people who had done the research and treated them, and the actual people who survived it.
It is incredibly to think that they used a nuclear bomb without having a lot of information about what it might do (although they knew enough, I think, not to have gone ahead with it. I am sure they wouldn't have done it in Europe or closer home. Although the experiments they did in their own country...)

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
