Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 12-10-205 — The Pledge of Allegiance

12th October, 2025: The Pledge of Allegiance.

Right … the new glasses — three pairs of them — have been picked up.

And … ?

The distance and intermediate pair seem to be working well.

I’ve not tried the reading glasses, as yet.

But given the other two pairs seem good?

I’ve no doubt I’ll be finishing Night Watch, soon.

~≈👮🏽‍♂️≈~

I have to admit, it’s rare I get a chance to go to a convention: much as I’d like to.

But?

I’m very aware that trailers and sneak peeks get aired at them.

And very aware a Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season four clip has been aired at New York Comic Con.

Which looks interesting: quite what Lieutenant Ortega has been planning with Scotty, I don’t know.

They’ve also announced Starfleet Academy, the Starfleet: Discovery spinoff is going premier on 15th January, 2026.

I think things are going to get busy …

~≈🖖≈~

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Olga†, Irene‡, and Debbi§ putting in their answers: with Olga and Irene scoring five out of five, and Mum and Debbi on four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        12th October, 1892, saw the first recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance.   By US whom: soldiers, sailors or students?

Q2)        People taking the pledge, pledge allegiance to the US what?

Q3)        The original version of the Pledge was written by Captain George T. Balch.   During the Civil War, he’d been a soldier in what: the Confederate Army or the Union Army?

Q4)        The phrase ‘under God’ was added to the Pledge in the 1950s.   In which year of the 1950s?

Q5)        Finally … ?   2004 saw a US Appeals Court ruling that the people taking the Pledge, didn’t have to what: sit, stand or kneel?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        11th October is the feast day of Saint James the Deacon.   According to whom: the Roman Catholic Church, the Anglicans or the Church of the Tin Vagabond?
A1)        The Anglicans.

Q2)        According to an announcement made on 11th October, 1987, searchers had finally failed to find what: the Yeti, a Bigfoot or Nessie?
A2)        Nessie.

Q3)        11th October is Revolution Day.   Where: North Macedonia, Macedonia or Albania … ?
A3)        North Macedonia.

Q4)        The Second Vatican Council started on 11th October, 1962.   It was convened by which pope: Pius 13th, John 23rd or Paul 6th?
A4)        John 23rd.

Q5)        Finally … ?   Apollo 7, NASA’s first manned Apollo mission, lauded on 11th October.   Of which year of the 1960s?
A5)        1968.
Here’s a thought …
“When I finally got up the courage to ask [my teacher] why she let kids skip the pledge, she smiled at me patiently and said, ‘Not everyone sees the flag the same way.’”
James H. Sweet.
A parody of the Pledge …

And U2’s debut album: which turns forty, today …

The next ten question set is on 24th October: they’re about Zambia.

Your comments will be published, tomorrow morning.

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Where possible, we avoid writing these questions with AI.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum.   (It was 1968, Mum, not 1962!)

Extremes looking similar is an old thing, Olga.   As I recall, Soviet Russian anti-Semitism was rife under Stalin: and on a par with Nazi Germany’s.   From what I’ve understood, Stalin was the tip of the iceberg.
Oh, are you on Windows 10?   Microsoft are pulling support for it on Wednesday …

‡        Morning, Irene: how IS the day … ?   (Oh, do you and Jim use Windows 10 on your computers?   Only Microsoft are pulling support for it on Wednesday.)

§        I’m not surprised you’re picking up the slang, Debbi: you have been around for a while!   You’re the commentor who’s been commenting the longest.   For at least thirteen years, if memory serves: you and Rick were over in 2012 … !
Oh, I was after Anglicans/Church of England as the answer for the question about Saint James.   The Roman Catholic feast day is August 17th …
        Have a good time off: have a long-service gong … !

Oh, yes. Stalin was... And the progroms of Jews have an unfortunate long history in Russia as well, long before the USSR.
No, I tend to update soon, even if there might be some problems, they tend to solve them pretty quickly, and I don't have anything that viatlly important to do with my computer, to be honest, so... I'm on Windows 11.

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
