Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 8-4-2026 — Robin Wright

8th April, 2026: Robin Wright.

Right … there’s help available.

I’ve repeatedly mentioned how helpful the Essential Living Fund run by Southend-on-Sea City Council was: especially for those of us on Universal Credits, or receiving other benefits, and living in Southend, Thurrock or in Essex.

But that the fund had now closed to those outside Southend.

Thankfully?

And due to the current government reworking the source of funds?

Southend Council’s now running the Crisis and Resilience fund for people in Southend, Thurrock and Essex.

That’s all to the good: and yes, I spent time, yesterday, applying for a grant from this new — rebranded? — fund.

Hopefully?

I’ll get something: the prepaid cards the Essential Living Fund handed out were handy, especially for paying off utility bills.

But I’m also aware the Government’s been tightening rules on some benefits: as well as cutting others.

Can you keep your fingers crossed for me, please?

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Irene/Jim† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with Mum and Debbi scoring five out of five, and Irene/Jim on four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        Robin Wright was born on 8th April.   Of which year of the 1960s?

Q2)        She played Claire Underwood: in the US version of which political thriller?

Q3)        She played Antiope in 2017’s Wonder Woman.   Antiope is Wonder Woman’s what: mother, aunt or sister?

Q4)        Robin plays Buttercup in which 1987 film: The Witches of Eastwick, The Untouchables or The Princess Bride?

Q5)        Finally … ?   Robin plays Jenny Curran.   In which Tom Hanks movie: The Money Pit, Forrest Gump or Here?

Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        Florian Schneider was born on 7th April, 1947.   He was a founder member of which band: Nena, Tangerine Dream or Kraftwerk?
A1)        Kraftwerk.

Q2)        7th April is World Health Day.   It’s sponsored by which UN body?
A2)        The World Health Organisation or WHO.

Q3)        7th April is the feast day of the Blessed Notker the Stammerer.   As of the last Roman Catholic Martyrology, is Notker a saint?
A3)        No.   Although he’s seen as a saint by some Catholic diocese, he’s not one, officially.

Q4)        Will Keith Kellogg was born on 7th April, 1860.   He created cornflakes.   And bred what: Arabian horses, Siberian hamsters or African Grey Parrots?
A4)        Arabian horses.

Q5)        Finally … ?   Joe Gallo was born on 7th April, 1929.   He was an Italian American what: gangster, singer or fashion designer?
A5)        Gangster.

Here’s a thought …

“Famous is celebrityism and I don’t want that.”
Robin Wright.

An interview …

  And a Southend-themed earworm§ …

The next ten-question set is on 16th April: it’s about World Voice Day.

Your comments, and today’s answers, will be published in tomorrow’s Teaser.

AI is avoided when writing these questions.

Answers are as accurate as possible: at the time of writing.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum.   (That Crisis fund might be handy, Mum.)

Welcome back, Irene, and Jim!   Oh, Notker’s not an official saint, I’m afraid.   (You might want to have a look at the fund I mentioned, earlier: I think anyone on a low income can get it, so it’s worth asking.)

I think we can safely say no, Debbi!   Much like Ian Paisley!   (Paisley long attempted to create a Loyalist paramilitary force, on a par with the UVF or IRA.)

§        The Kursaal Flyers were based in Southend: and named for an imitation train went to the Kursaal amusement arcade.   Why the lead singer dressed as a spiv, I don’t know …

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
