1st May, 2026.
You know … sometimes, I’ll get the hang of those introduction videos!
Why?
Because it’s only after I’ve published it, I realised I’ve handed people a great big clue, for one of today’s questions … !
Heigh … ho … !!
~≈🕵🏻♂️≈~
Oh, I’ve finally finished ripping my recently purchased blu-ray box-set, the box-set of the classic BBC series, Blackadder*.
I’m going to have to write about the process, I really am!
At any rate … ?
This particular job is done.
And … ?
The results are happily stored.
I’ve also got to admit, I’m mildly impressed with the box set.
Granted, the price was possibly too high.
But it was on a par with the Limited edition Dr Who box-sets doing the rounds: they seem to have provided a model for this set.
Each individual series of Blackadder is on its own individual disc, and the set had three extra discs worth of bonus material: the specials, a documentary and lord knows how much studio footage,
It’s very well done.
And one hell of an improvement one the blu-ray version of The Day of the Triffids*.
That box-set could’ve had a few more bits …
Let’s move on.
Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?
Q1) The Memphis Race Riots started on 1st May, 1866. The Riots contributed to which Amendment to the US Constitution: the 13th, 14th or 15th?Q2) The Loblaw Boycott started on 1st May, 2024. The Loblaw Companies are based, where: Canada, the USA or Mexico?Q3) Nikolai Yezhov was born on 1st May. 1895. He was head of the NKVD: the Soviet Union’s (then) what: secret police, army or airforce?Q4) 1st May is May Day. In England, May Day revellers traditionally dance ’round what: a church, a Maypole or Glastonbury Tor?Q5) Finally … ? The 1920 short story, “May Day”, was set on 1st May, 1919. Who wrote “May Day”: Walt Whitman, F. Scott Fitzgerald or H. P. Lovecraft?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 30th April is May Eve. In the Northern Hemisphere, it’s traditionally seen as the start of what: winter or summer?A1) Summer.Q2) Actress, Kirsten Dunst, was born on 30th April, 1982. She played Claudia in which 1994 film: Dumb and Dumber, Four Weddings and a Funeral or Interview with a Vampire?Q3) The Territory of Orleans became the 18th US state: on 30th April, 1812. Which US state did it become?Q4) An embassy was besieged on 30th April, 1980. Which country’s Embassy?A4) Iran’s.Q5) More to the point, that embassy was where: London, Paris, Berlin or Washington?A5) London. (The siege — and the breaking of it, by the SAS — was televised: and the most riveting thing on TV, that year. I think it was the first time many of us had heard of the Regiment.)Q6) Finally … ? Willem Alexander was inaugurated as king: on 30th April, 2013. King of where: Belgium, the Netherlands or Luxembourg?A6) The Netherlands.
Here’s a thought …
“If I had lost the battle, they would have shot me.”Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington, 1 May 1769 – 14 September 1852.
And a Judy Collins§ song …
The next ten question set will be on 17th May: it’s about Dennis Potter.
Your comments, and today’s answers, will be published in tomorrow’s Teaser.
AI is avoided when writing these questions.
Answers are as accurate as possible: at the time of writing.
Decisions about scores are final.
Thank you for coming: have a good day.
* As far as I can tell, neither Blackadder, nor the 1981 version of The Day of the Triffids, are freely available on the BBC’s iPlayer service. The only way we’re be able to see them is through this box-set: or, Google tells me, some premium streamers.
† Hello, Mum! (Well done on scoring six out of six.)
‡ “Do tell” … ? About the meat pie floater, Debbi, or Joanne Whalley? Or the aerial? Or Asquith? Or the thing with the wosname … ? Or the doodah … ? Or something … ?
§ That is one hell of a tune … !

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?
I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.
Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.
Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.
Thank you.
