Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 25th September 2026

25th August, 2026.

It’s Tuesday.

And, going by the BBC’s weather website?

We’re due rain … tomorrow.

I hope it turns up: we could do with it.

The government’s announced plans to give grants to local councils, so they can build more social housing.

Council housing, social housing built and run local councils, rather than by housing associations.

That’s all to the good: we could certainly do with more in Brentwood.

And a central government grant would be bloody handy: I don’t think Brentwood Council could afford to build any social housing schemes, without the help.

Here’s hoping … !

I had an earworm playing through my head, yesterday: Freur’s “Doot-doot”.

So … ?

One: I’m passing it on.

Two?

I’m going to sit here, amazed that the thing still sounds as gorgeous as it did, back in the 1980s.

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Irene† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with Irene and Debbi scoring five out of five, and Mum on one.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        NASA launched the Spitzer Space Telescope on 25th August.   25th August of which year: 2001, 2003 or 2005?

Q2)        Tim Cain was born on 25th August, 1965.   He was one of the main developers of which video game: Diablo, Ecstatica 2 or Fallout?

Q3)        Blair Underwood was born on 25th August, 1964.   He plays Mark Harper in which 2006 film: Something New, Madea’s Family Reunion or Company Town?

Q4)        25th August is the Feast Day of Patricia of Naples: one of two patron saints of Naples.   Who’s the other saint: Januarius, Februarius or Aprilium?

Q5)        Finally … ?   25th August is Soldiers Day.   In which South American country?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        The discovery of the closest exoplanet to Earth was announced on 24th August.   Of which year: 2014, 2016 or 2018?
A1)        2016.

Q2)        The planet in question is what: Proxima Centauri c, Proxima Centauri b or Proxima Centauri a?
A2)        Proxima Centauri b.

Q3)        The planet was discovered by whom: NASA, the Vatican Observatory or the European Southern Observatory?
A3)        The European Southern Observatory.

Q4)        Is the planet in its stars habitable zone: yes, or no?
A4)        Yes.

Q5)        Finally … ?   What star is the planet orbiting?
A5)        Proxima Centauri.
Here’s a thought …
“There’s always someone that’s dealing with a bigger challenge than you are.   You’ve gotta have perspective.”
Rob Halford, born 25 August 1951.
And a song …

The next 10 question sets are tomorrow, and 5th, 7th and 11th September: they’re about International Dog Day, the Muppet Show, Boston and the Nine-Eleven attacks.

There’s a twelve question set on 8th September: about Star Trek.

Your comments, and today’s answers, will be published in tomorrow’s Teaser.

AI is avoided when writing these questions.

Answers are as accurate as possible: at the time of writing.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Morning, Irene: how IS the day going … ?

Hello, Mum!   (It was 2016, the European Southern Observatory, Yes and Proxima Centuri, Mum — rather than 2018, NASA, No and Kepler.)

It’s always the way, Debbi, isn’t it?   You should see how my weigh-ins are going!
Oh, the next ten question set’s tomorrow: it’s got a barking theme … …

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.

*   I know many value their online privacy. I respect that. But hope you respect my wish to see who’s commenting on my blog: and my wish for you to introduce your self to me, and to your fellow commentors.
