Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 18-10-2026 — Luke the Evangelist

18th October, 2026: Luke the Evangelist.

Right … I think panic or pickyness has done something!

Yes: it’s meant I’ve got up ten minutes before my alarm went off.

Which is mildly ironic.

I slept through it, yesterday … !

~≈⏰≈~

Yep: I officially had dinner with my nephew, last night.

After he made another video.

Feel free to hit the like button!

~≈🎥≈~

I follow the news, every-so-often.

You’d possibly guessed, haven’t you?

At any rate, something that floated across my attention, yesterday, was this piece: one that tells us an unnamed male celebrity is seeking to prevent publication of serious allegations by ITN and The Guardian.

Some of which are of a sexual nature.

Medical evidence submitted by the man says that he will attempt “… to take his own life”.

Hmmm …

I can understand someone not wanting to be named in these sorts of proceedings.

But … ?

I would also say that threatening suicide in this situation is …

Is an attempt to blackmail the court into behaving as the celebrity wants: rather than in the interest of a public who’d feel it should be reported … as a prelude to the man’s trial for whatever he’s done.

OK: if the unnamed celebrity is already undergoing trial, himself, I can understand a non-publication injunction happening.

Reports like this could prove prejudicial to someone’s defence.

But to ban publication because “I’ll kill myself if you do”?

Strikes me as an attempt to silence the press, as an attempt at blackmail … and just downright offensive.

Let’s move on.

With Debbi* missing, yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum† putting in her answers: scoring two out of five in the process.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        18th October is the feast day of Luke the Evangelist.   He’s one of how many evangelists: two, three or four?

Q2)        Name one of the others.

Q3)        He (apparently) wrote the Gospel of Luke.   And what else: 1st Corinthians, Revelation of Saint John the Divine, or the Acts of the Apostles?

Q4)        Luke is a patron saint of whom: tin smiths, gold smiths or smelters?

Q5)        Finally … ?   Luke is said to have been a what: physician, smith or cheesewright?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        17th October is National Heroes Day.   Where: Somalia, Somaliland or Siberia?
A1)        Somaliland.

Q2)        The late Elizabeth 2nd opened the UK’s first commercial nuclear power station on 17th October, 1956.   What station was it: Calder Hall, Dungeness or Sellafield?
A2)        Sellafield.

Q3)        17th October is the feast day of Saint Rule.   He’s also know as Saint what: Romulus, Regulus or Remus?
A3)        Regulus.

Q4)        17th September is the feast day of Saint John the Dwarf.   He was born in which North African country?
A4)        Egypt.

Q5)        Finally … ?   Journalist, Ariel Levy, was born on 17th October, 1974.   She’s a staff writer for which magazine: The New Yorker, GQ or Loaded?
A5)        The New Yorker.
Here’s a thought …
“Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven …”
Luke 6:37 KJV.
And a video …

The next ten question sets are on 27th October, and 8th and 10th November: they’re about Godzilla, Monty Python’s Life of Brian and All Quiet on the Western Front.

Your comments, and today’s answers, will be published in tomorrow’s Teaser.

AI is avoided when writing these questions.

Answers are as accurate as possible: at the time of writing.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Everything OK, Debbi?

†        Hello, Mum!   (It was Somaliland, Sellafield and the New Yorker, Mum, rather than Somalia, Calder Hall and GQ.   Terry Pratchett was press officer at Calder Hall.)

  2. Hi, Paul. Sorry I haven't visited for so long. Nothing spectacular has happened, but the little things seem to pile up and there's never enough time to do much other than keep going. I hope you are well. Mother is slowly deteriorating, but it fluctuates. He had the flu and COVID vaccine last week and had a terrible reaction to it (she could hardly walk, and spent most of the day after asleep and poorly), and we had had several repairs due at home, apart from colds and of course, a lot of rain (it's raining now again).
Do take care, my best to your family (I see Debbi's tweets and videos every so often, but some days I don't see much), and I agree with your comments. It is clearly blackmail, although depending on the person's character, it doesn't mean that s/he wouldn't act on it, but that is no excuse.

I love it when people comment. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively adult. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

If you can also leave you comments on today’s Teaser Video, that would be good.

Thank you.
