A3) Dictator.   (If I’ve understood things correctly, Emperor was never a term the Ancient Romans used in the same way we did: and his title as Consul had expired.)

A4) The Roman Republic.

Q5) And finally … which successor of Cæsar’s eventually became known — to us, anyway — as Rome’s first Emperor … ?
