The Daily Teaser — 17-3-2013

You know, I think I can safely say I’ve had a good night’s sleep.

Isn’t it amazing what you can get up to, when you’re bored.

Seriously: now’t on TV, now’t grabbing my attention on the iTunes store, and frankly, no cash to go out on … !

Oh, well …

Here’s hoping the job situation improves: if nothing else, that’ll get me out of the day, each day.

Hmmm …

Let’s move on, shall we … ?

≤≤•≥≥

Yesterday’s Teaser saw both Debbi* and Mr Strict‡ putting in their answers: with Debbi happily admitting she’s looking forward to the next part of Dr Who, it also saw them tying, and both scoring six out of six.

Let’s see how they — and you — do with the Saint Patrick’s Day questions.   Here they are, along with the ‘How To’, License and video …

Q1) Which Irish author wrote the novel Dracula?
Q2) Who was President of Ireland from 1945 to 1959?
Q3) Which American President’s ancestors came from Ballyporeen in Co Tipperary, Ireland?
Q4) What is the most westerly county of the Republic of Ireland?
Q5) Name the largest county in the Leinster province of Ireland?
Q6) Saint Patrick’s Day, 2012, saw the death of which Pope … ?
Q7) And finally … which member of the The Corrs was born on Saint Patrick’s Day, 1973 … ?
And here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 16th March, 37BC, saw Caligula become Roman emperor, after the death of his great uncle: who was his great uncle … ?
A1) Tiberius.   (OK, Tiberius Julius Caesar Augustus, if you want to have his full name … )
Q2) 16th March, 1953, saw Marshal Tito of where, pay a state visit to the UK … ?
A2) Yugoslavia.
Q3) More to the point, name any of that country’s successor states …
A3) Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Slovenia.
Q4) 16th March, 1988, saw thousands killed, after a chemical weapons attack in Halabja: in which country is Halabja … ?
A4) Iraq.
Q5) That attack was ordered by that country’s ruler: who was he … ?
A5) Saddam Hussein.
Q6) And finally … 16th March, 1926, saw the launch of the first liquid fueled what … ?
A6) Rocket.
I’ll leave with this quote from the saint, himself …
“I am Patrick, yes a sinner and indeed untaught; yet I am established here in Ireland where I profess myself bishop. I am certain in my heart that "all that I am," I have received from God. So I live among barbarous tribes, a stranger and exile for the love of God.”
Saint Patrick.
And with this song …

Enjoy the day …

*        I know this won’t necessarily show up in Baltimore, Debbi: it’s the trailer for part two.   But it should be on the BBC America site.

There’s a breakdown of it, on YouTube …

‡        I think we’re going to OFFICIALLY declare Mr S as South Africa’s ‘Most Mentally Muscular Man’ …

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.

*   I know many value their online privacy. I respect that. But hope you respect my wish to see who’s commenting on my blog: and my wish for you to introduce your self to me, and to your fellow commentors.
