The Daily Teaser — 6-5-2013: GUESS! :D

Hmmm …

That seems an odd — putting it mildly — to say the least.

I have to admit, I’ve just open up the BBC’s news website: as I’d heard the news that one of the UK’s best loved TV stars, Stephen Fry, had attempted suicide, last year.   Here’s hoping things are looking up for him: he’s suffered bipolarity for many years, and this sounds like a nasty result of that.

But something else caught my eye: this piece, telling us of 36 year old Geoffrey Bettley: a Religious Education teacher who’d been suspended for having some 200 indecent images of children on his computer.

He’s been allowed back to work as a teacher.

And I have to ask two things: ₁) Why … ?   And ₂) Is that wise … ?

I’m aware people can change: very aware.   This, though, sounds like a big — and very unwise — gamble.   And I’m not a parent who’s children are at any school that’s thinking of hiring him.

Just sayin’

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Debbi* putting in her answers: along with letting us know her frustrations about her shoes, she also manage to score five out of five.

Let’s see how she — and you — do with todays themed questions, shall we?   Here they are, along with the ‘How To’, License and video …

Q1) 6th June, 1984, saw the creation — by computer engineer, Alexey Pajitnov — of which best selling video game … ?
Q2) More to the point, in WHICH country … ?
Q3) The game has been released on lots of platforms: but was especially associated with which handheld device … ?
Q4) The music from the game became a UK for who: Dr Spot, Dr Splat or Dr Spin … ?
Q5) And finally … In which year did a computer scientist work out it’s impossible to play the game indefinitely: 1987, 1988 or 1989 … ?
And here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 5th June, 70 AD, saw Titus and his legions breach the middle wall of Jerusalem.   Which Jewish temple was destroyed as part of the campaign … ?
A1) The Second Temple.
Q2) Which day of the Jewish calendar commemorates the fall of that temple … ?
A2) Tisha Av.
Q3) 5th June, 1963, saw John Profumo resign his government post over a sex scandal: which government post was it … ?
A3) Minister of War.
Q4) Five years later, 5th June, 1968 saw Senator Robert Kennedy seriously injured in a shooting.   Who carried out that shooting … ?
A4) Sirhan Sirhan.
Q5) And finally … 5th June, 1942, saw the USA declare war on three east European countries: name one of them …
A5) Bulgaria, Hungary and Romania.
I’ll leave you with this quote …
“I’m pretty happy, but I’ve lived with it for 25 years. I kind of forget. It’s something to say, but I’m used to it.”
Alexey Pajitnov, speaking about his best known creation.
And — appropriately — with this tune …

Have a good day …

*        Would slip on shoes be of any help, Debbi … ?   Oh, no … Rehab, again, yes … ?   That must be VERY frustrating … !   (I mean, I get a touch of cabin fever, here: and I’m fully mobile … !)   If it’s any help, though … ?   I’m was rather pleased with yesterday’s Gazette Teaser …

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
