Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 16-10-2017: Jane Eyre

Hmmm …

That seemed to go well enough.

I’m up nice and early, today: as I’m due to be in at nine.

And did what I usually do, when it’s dark.

Tried turning the kitchen light on.

Which didn’t come on.

First thing I though?   Was I needed another dratted neon tube.

Turns out I was wrong, there.

When I managed to find my step ladder, to have a look?

Turns out the fitting had come loose: and just needed tightening.

Quite what happened there, I don’t know: but I think I need to book a repair …

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Debbi† and Trevor‡ putting in their answers: with all three scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video

Q1) Jane Eyre was first published.   On 16th October of which year?
Q2) It was published by Smith, Elder and whom?
Q3) Harper & Brothers were its American publishers.   Harper & Brothers were based in which US city?
Q4) Which of the Brontë sister wrote Jane Eyre: Anne, Emily or Charlotte?
Q5) That author published Jane Eyre under a pen name.   Which pen name: Currer, Ellis or Acton Bell?
Q6) The book opens when the main character is how old: ten, twelve or fourteen?
Q7) Jane spends her time at a school called what?
Q8) Jane becomes a governess at which fictional hall?
Q9) That’s hall’s owner falls in love with Jane.   What’s his name?
Q10) Finally … the very first talking film version of Jane Eyre was in which year of the 1930s?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) 15th October saw the debut episode of I Love Lucy.   In which year of the 1950s?
A1) 1951.
Q2) The Lucy in question was Lucille … who?
A2) Actress, Lucille Ball: although the character’s full name was Lucille Esmeralda Ricardo née McGillicuddy.
Q3) Lucy’s on-screen husband — Ricky Ricardo — was played by Lucille’s then — off-screen — husband.   Who was he?
A3) Desi Arnaz, also known as Desi Arnaz Senior.
Q4) The production company born as a result of the show — Desilu — also produced the original Mission: Impossible series. And which science fiction show?
A4) Star Trek.
Q5) Finally … The show is a very well known what: sit-com, cop show or docudrama?
A5) Sit-com.
Here’s an opening line …
“There was no possibility of taking a walk that day.”
The opening line from Jane Eyre.
And a song from Jane Eyre: The Musical …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser …

Have a good day!

*        Hmmm … You might just need to tinker with the settings on the Firestick, Olga: or the TV.   Could just be the sound on that episode’s bad, though … I do know I’ve managed to catch a couple of trailers for Lore: it looks rather good!   Oh … you’re not in the way of Ex-Hurricane Ophelia, are you?   Might pay you to check the predictions.   (I know there were a lot of trees down, in the ’87 Storm: I was still living at the family home, back then: and walking to work, you’d see tons of trees down!)

†        It was the song that always got me, Debbi.   Point of fact, the song’s from an EP that was huge, when I was younger: the better known song was Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps: with the best guitar riff going!   (Oh, apparently?   I Walked with a Zombie is supposed to be based on Jane Eyre.   Go figure!)

‡        I’ve not seen it, yet, Trevor: way the hours work out, I’m afraid.   I will try and catch up with the box set: as you’re not the first person to mention it to me.   Have you been watching Star Trek: Discovery?   Rather good!

The rest of the things I have watched using the Fire stick sound fine, so not sure why only that one unless it's a problem with it. I have three episodes left now but yes, so far very good (and not too long, so easy to fit without much pre-planning). I did read the thing about Jane Eyre and I Walked with a Zombie. I should watch that movie again as I only remember it as very atmospheric and weird (but I was very young and I don't think I've ever watched it since).
Here it's quite windy, but I don't think anywhere near as bad an in other places. There are no warnings in place.
    We shall see.

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
