Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 20-8-2024 — World Mosquito Day

20th August, 2024: World Mosquito Day.

Yay!

It’s Tuesday!

Which means … ?

I’m mildly annoyed.

I’ve been posting links to the Daily Teaser to X/Twitter and to Facebook, for some years, now.

And, more recently, to Instagram.

And, yesterday?

Facebook decided to take the link to the written version of the Teaser, down" for only the second time in a long while.

Why?

Because it was spam!

One of these, I’ll work out what Facebook’s thinking!

~≈F≈~

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with Olga and Debbi scoring five out of five, and Mum on four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Here’s a thought …
“Prior to the discovery of the transmitting organism, [ … ], there were few means for controlling the spread of the disease …”.
From the Wikipedia entry on the day.
A song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

And a sketch that mentions mosquitoes …

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Actually, it went well, Olga: I’ve lost a few grams.   And one of the staff said I look like I’m losing weight!

        Hello, Mum!

There wasn’t a Howard, was there, Debbi?   :D   Actually, he’s got a very good speaking voice!
Oh, Bill Gates on on today’s The Life Scientific.   I’m going nowhere near it: Steve Jobs had a FAR nicer voice!

  1. Q1) Flies

Q2) Spanish (Some of the clamps used during surgery are called “mosquitos” as well, the small ones, at least here. Not sure if it’s the same in English. I had to check. Yes, there are “mosquito forceps” in English as well.)

    Q3) malaria

    Q4) protozoa

Q5) Blood (female mosquitoes, one must add). Mosquitoes like me a lot. Unfortunately. I can see a use for most creatures, but mosquitoes… (I read that cockroaches help get rid of dead and decaying matter, not that I like them very much. I suggested getting some bats to eat the mosquitoes, but my mother wasn’t that fond of the idea…)
Oh, well done on the weight-loss front! Keep going!

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
