The Daily Teaser …

Can I make a confession, here, quickly?

Can I?

Bless ’er, my Mum managed to get a second hand pc, over the weekend — you can imagine the fun I’ve had, installing Ubuntu on it, can’t you?

She also managed to get the desk it was sitting on, as well.

Which she didn’t need.

So she decided to give it to me.

Can’t complain.

But I do know it’s about the same size as a small barn!

•••••

But let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s teaser saw Trevor getting 7 out of 7, and — amongst other quotes — putting in the classic one from Kenneth William’s version of Julius Cæsar. I’ll let you work out which one … !

But let’s see what he — and you — can do with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the ‘How To’ and License

Q1) 16th March, 37 AD, saw who named as Roman Emporer?

Q2) 16th March, 1872, saw which team win the first ever UK FA Cup?

Q3) 16th March, 1968, saw between 350 to 500 native Vietnamese killed by US troops in one of the most notorious massacres of the Vietnam War: what was this massacre called?

Q4) Exactly ten years later, 16th March, 1978, saw Aldo Moro kidnapped by — apparent — terrorists. Which European country was Moro the former Prime Minister of?

Q5) 16th March was the first day of which Ancient Roman festival?

Q6) And finally … 16th March, 2005 saw the Government of Israel hand over which town to the Palestinians?

And here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

A1) The Senate.

Q2) More to the point, name either of the three other months of the Roman calendar which had the Ides on the 15th.

A2) May, July and October.

Q3) More to the point, the Ides of March usually saw a festival in honour of which Roman god?

A3) Mars. (Don’t hold me to this, but I seem to remember learning at school — many years ago — that that’s where the month of March got its name from … )

Q4) Equally, the Ides of March, 1917, saw which Emperor abdicate?

A4) Czar Nicholas the 2nd of Russia.

Q5) Keeping it Russian, 15th March, 1990, saw who elected as President of Russia?

A5) Mikhail Gorbachev.

Q6) Different direction, here: 15th March saw the first Test match between the English and Australian cricket teams: in which year of the 1870s?

A6) 1877. (Believe it or not, this wasn’t the first Ashes match: that was in 1882 … )

Q7) And finally … 15th March, 1947, saw the birth of which American guitarist?

A7) Ryland Peter ‘Ry’ Cooder.

Enjoy those, everyone! I’ll catch you later!

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
