The Daily Teaser …

You remember, yesterday, I had the ‘You Have Just Been Mugged’ poster up, in yesterday’s Teaser … ?

I’m thinking that I maybe have been …

I had an interview, yesterday, in Deptford for a utilities re-seller, and the company’s manager was supposed to have phone me, yesterday, to let me know if I’d be seriously considered, and what the basic income would be.

Not a thing!

I think I’ve been mugged. Which is unsurprising, somehow, as they weren’t offering a salary, per sé: they were offering a ‘retainer’.

Make of THAT, what you will.

°°°°°

But one pleasant upside to yesterday was the simple fact that I took a bit of a look around the net for Easter eggs in Mac OS X.

To find these a few quirks in the icons
for both Mail, and TextEdit*.

Which I’ll probably tell you about, later …

°°°°°

Let’s move on, shall we … ?

Yesterday’s Teaser was another quiet one, with just Trevor putting in his answer: and bagging 5 points out of 5.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we … ? Here they are, along with the ‘How To’ and License

Q1) 18th May, 1980, saw the eruption of Mount St. Helens: in which US state is Mount St. Helens?

Q2) 22 years earlier, 17th May, 1958, saw the birth of which English singer and actress?

Q3) 18th May, 1998, saw the US Department of Justice, along with about 20 US States, file anti-trust legislation against which software company?

Q4) 18th May, 1593, saw the issuing of an arrest warrant for who, on charges of heresy?

Q5) And finally … 18th May, 1990, saw the death of actress, Jill Ireland: who was her second husband?

And here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) 17th May, 1915, saw the fall of the last British Liberal government: who was the Party leader, and PM, at the time?
A1) Herbert Henry Asquith, 1st Earl of Oxford and Asquith.

Q2) 13 years earlier, 17th May, 1902, saw the discovery of the Antikythera mechanism: Antikythera is an island off the coast of which European country?
A2) Greece.

Q3) More to the point, the mechanism was an ancient device used to calculate what: astronomical positions, earthquake strength, or an estimated time of volcanic eruptions.
A3) Astronomical positions.

Q4) 17th May, 2009, saw Dalia Grybauskaitė elected as the first female president … of where?
A4) Lithuania.

Q5) And finally … 17th May, 1954, saw the US Supreme Court rule what to be unconstitutional?
A5) Racial Segregation in schools.

Enjoy those, everyone. I’ll catch you later!

* If you blow upª the icon size for TextEdit, you find a letter written there. Here’s what it says:

Dear Kate,
Here’s to the Crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can praise them, disagree with them, quote them, disbelieve them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things.

Take Care,
Johnny Appleseed.

Rather Nifty, isn’t it? As for what happens when you have a close look at the icon, in the Network folder, for a Windoze PC …

ª What you do is open a Finder window. Then hit ⌘ and ‘j’. In the ‘View’ panel that comes up, you can adjust the icon size.

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
