The Daily Teaser …

Did you ever get the feeling you’ve been rained on … ?

I’ve got to admit, I’ve just had a quick look out of my window, and my word, it doesn’t exactly look sunny.

But at least we’re not as badly off as Saint Andrews, at the minute.

Going by the article they’ve just had on the BBC News channel, there’s going to be a lot of waterproofed golfers teeing off, this morning. And as it’s Saint Swithin’s Day … …

But I’m burbling, aren’t I?

I am, and I know it. Let’s get moving on, shall we … ?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw both Trevor and Kaiju going head-to-head, with both of them getting 10 out of 10, Kaiju getting his answers in first, and Trevor putting in some rather good quotes from Woody Guthrie, whose birthday it was yesterday.

Lets see how they — and you — do with today’s questions set, shall we? Here they are, along with the ‘How To’ and License

Q1) 15th July, 1973, saw the birth of Lebanese-American drummer, John Dolmayan: he’s the drummer for which American rock band … ?

Q2) 15th July, 1971, saw the British government formally endorse a cull of baby what … ?

Q3) 15th July, 1870, saw which US state become the last Confederate state re-admitted to the USA … ?

A1) Seven.

Q2) That is, of course, the origin of the French public holiday, Bastille Day: What’s the formal French name for this holiday … ?
A2) La Fête Nationale. (It’s also called ‘le quatorze Juillet’, or 14th July. Hang on, aren’t French supposed to be vaguely Romantic? I mean, something a little more poetic than ‘the National Celebration’ is surely in order … ?)

A3) La Champs-Élysées.

Q4) Who was French King at the start of the French Revolution … ?
A4) Louis 15th.

Q5) According to popular tradition, that king’s wife, Marie-Antoinette, famously sparked a riot by saying “Let them eat … ” what, to mutinous French peasants … ?

Q6) What was the name of the very Revolutionary device whose first criminal victim was Nicolas Jacques Pelletier?
A6) The Guillotine.

Q7) 14th July, 1223, saw who become King of France … ?
A7) Louis 8th. (Is it me, or does that look vaguely like Richard 3rd … ? No … ? Oh, well … )

Q8) Moving on, 14th July, 1992, saw Lynn and William Jolitz release which open source operating system … ?
A8) 386BSD.

Q9) Bastille Day, 1881, saw who shoot by Sherriff Patrick Floyd Garrett … ?

Q10) And FINALLY … Bastille Day, 2003, saw the US government admit the existence of which rather murky part of Nevada … ?
A10) Area 51.

Hmmm … Think I might have overdone the croissants, meself, burt there we go.

Enjoy your day, folks.

I’ll catch you later …

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
