The Daily Teaser …

Oh, that’s better, I’ve just got some tea down my throat.

Which is possibly a rather light note, given the day.

Especially in view of the recent news. I’ve just had a look at the BBC News site, and it seems the pastor at the centre of the Qur’an burning row is visiting New York — today, of all days — to try and negotiate the moving of the planned mosque and community centre.

Now I know that mosque is controversial, given where it’s proposed that it’s to be put.

But, unlike the pastors book-burning … ?

I see it triggering arguments, rather than bloodshed.

Lets get moving on, shall we … ?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw both Trevor and Kaiju — welcome back, Kaiju — putting in there answers, with both bagging 5 out of 5. It also saw Trevor putting in some very good quotes from Mary Wollstonecraft, and Kaiju making some sound comments!

Let’s see how they, you and everybody else does with today’s questions, shall we? They’re rather light in tone, I know, given the day: but I’m hoping to give a lift to people’s spirits, given what happened nine years ago.

So here they are, along with the ‘How To’ and License

Q1) 11th September, 1940, saw the birth of director, Brian De Palma: which of his film’s saw Al Pacino play Tony Montana?

Q2) Moving on from that: 11th September, 9AD, saw the end of the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest. This was between the Roman Empire, and forces controlled by which notorious German leader … ?

Q3) 11th September, 2003, saw the death of which Swedish politician, after a stabbing attack.

Q4) 11 September, 1885, saw the birth of which British writer … ?

Q5) And finally … 11th September, 1973 saw President Salvador Allende die in a revolt lead by the Armed forces: which South American country was he president of … ?

And here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) 10th September, 2007, saw the death of British businesswoman, Anita Roddick, DBE: which business waas she the founder of … ?

A1) The Body Shop.

Q2) More to the point, Anita Roddick died on the same day — 10th September, 2007 — as actress Jane Wyman: Jane Wyman was the first wife of which former US President … ?
A2) Ronald Reagan.

Q3) 10th September, 1963, saw which company open a credit card service in the UK … ?

Q4) 10th September, 1988, saw two British TV presenters seriously injured in a helicopter crash: name either of the presenters concerned.
A4) Mike Smith and Sarah Greene.

Q5) And finally … 10th September, 2001, saw Major Charles Ingram — allegedly — cheat his way to a £1, 000, 000 prize: on which game show … ?
A5) Who Wants To Be A Millionaire. (Cough, cough …)

Enjoy those, everyone.

Let’s hope that — today of all days, and to use an old saying — the balloon doesn’t go up.

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
