Hmmm …
You know, I’ve got to confess, I think me, Movie Night Adrian, Kevin D, and his wife, Tootles Sarah, managed to do something rather unusual, last night.
We actually managed to catch something fairly art-house …
Well …
When I say art-house, I don’t know if the 2008, Juraj Jakubisko directed Anna Friel film, Bathory actually counts.
Certainly not with Friel’s rather 16th century poodle-cut.
But I’m thinking that it’s about as art-house as we’re likely to get …
Bathory loosely sees Anna Friel as the eponymous Countessa Erszabet Báthory, the legendary Countess of Blood from 16th Century Upper Hungary: in what’s now the Slovak Republic.
And attempts, as director, Juraj Jakubisko says in his Wikipedia entry, “She supposedly murdered 650 people during her lifetime. I think this theory is absurd and thought of creating my own legend, which would show her in a completely different light …”
I’m thinking he manages to mostly succeed, there. But he also adds that he added in a couple of investigating monks to try and lighten the mood of the piece.
Which I know for a fact didn’t sit especially well with Kevin and Adrian …

Actually, I’ve to got admit, I’m none too sure if I was impressed, myself.
You see, I got hold of Báthory mostly on the back of the fact it had actress Anna Friel in it: someone I always thought was frankly cute, ever since I clapped eye on her in Brookside.
And … ?
And while I think she — and the film’s overall look — is riveting in this, I’m thinking that — at 2 hours, 14 minutes — Báthory isn’t necessarily the best way to spent an evening.
Not unless it gets a lot of editing work done to it.
And maybe some re-writing. Just to make it a little pacier …

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?
I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.
Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.
Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.
Thank you.
* I know many value their online privacy. I respect that. But hope you respect my wish to see who’s commenting on my blog: and my wish for you to introduce your self to me, and to your fellow commentors.
