The Daily Teaser — 12-9-2011

You know …

It’s not that often I start banging on about the weather, it really isn’t.

But the fact is … ?

Well …

The fact is that the weather’s looking absolutely bloody awful!

What’s not helping, I’m thinking, is that we’ve had the leftovers from Hurricane Katia hit Britain’s west coast.

And head north, towards Scotland.

Now, I’m sort of thankful I’m not that much further than where I am.

But … ?

I do know I’ve just had a quick look out of my kitchen window.

Let’s just say it doesn’t look sunny, and leave it, there, shall we … ?

Ahem!

‹‹•››

Let’s get moving on, shall we … ?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw both Debbi and an old friend, Tim, putting in their answers: and saw Tim bagging 4 out of 5, with Debbi, likewise, scoring 4 out of 5*.

Let’s see how they — and you — do with today’s questions, shall we? Here they are, along with the ‘How To’, License and video

Q1) 12th September, 1940, saw the discovery of the Lascaux Cave paintings: is Lascaux in the Dordogne, Haute-Garonne or Vosges?

Q2) 12th September, 1980, saw a military coup in which country … ?

Q3) More to the point, in which African country was Emperor Haile Salassie overthrown, on 12th September, 1974?

Q4) 12th September saw the birth of actors Freddie Jones, and Sir Ian Holm: which one of them is the older, by 4 years?

Q5) And FINALLY … 12th September, 480BC, is the conventionally accepted date for WHICH battle … ?
And here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 11th September, 2001, saw the notorious 9/11 Attacks on the USA: which day of the week was it?
A1) Tuesday.

Q2) Two planes struck the World Trade Centre, in New York, and a third, the Pentagon. Where did the fourth hijacked plane crash?
A2) Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

Q3) Moving on … 11th September, 1609, saw the discovery of which New York island … ?
A3) Manhattan Island.

Q4) September 11th, 1931, saw the murder of Salvatore Maranzano: on whose orders?
A4) Those of Salvatore Charles ‘Lucky’ Luciano.

Q5) More to the point, which Mafia role did Maranzano try to take … ?
A5) Capo di Tutti Capi: Boss of All Bosses, in other words.

Q6) And finally … 11th September, 1973, saw the overthrow of the President of Chile: who was he … ?
A6) President Salvador Allende.
Enjoy those, everyone: I’ll leave you with the slightly ODD tune I caught earlier …

* Although I’ve GOT to admit I was tempted to mark you at 5, Debbi: I believe — although I’ll happily admit, I could be wrong! — that Maranzano was already a Boss: I just could find a reference to the phrase ‘godfather’ outside the Mario Puzo novel. It’s PRETTY much the same with ‘don’. And NONE of the references I can find equate ‘don’ with ‘capo di tutti capi’ …

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
