The Daily Teaser — 24-9-2011

You know …

It really does seem as if NASA are being remarkably closed mouthed.

About that satellite, so you know.

Just in case you didn’t know — as there’s a lot of news getting mentioned before this — the Upper Atmosphere Research Satellite has researched the end of it’s working life, and is due hit Earth, at some point this morning.

NASA hasn’t said where they think it’s going to hit, according to the reporters on the BBC news channel.

But I’ve got to admit, I’ve got all sorts of stories floating around my head, that my grandparents used to tell me when I was a child.

To the effect that if the engine noise stops, you’ve got 15 seconds to get under cover!

Let’s get moving on, shall we … ?

Yes, lets …

Yesterday’s Teaser saw both Debbi and Nina putting their answers: with Debbi bagging 6 out of 6, and Nina scoring 5, it also saw both of the ladies gently pointing out I’d got my years wrong: the Styx album, Equinox, was, in fact, released in 1975.

Lets see how they — and you, and more to the point, me — do with today’s questions, shall we? Here they are, along with the ‘How To’, License and video

Q1) 24th September, 622 AD, saw Muhammed complete the first Hijra: but was he going from, or to, Mecca.

Q4) 24th September, 1992, saw the resignation of which Government minister, over a sex scandal … ?

Q5) More to the point, which ministerial post did he hold … ? (And why am I thinking @Alexandrafunfit’s going to mention the ‘Minister For Fun’ nickname the minister in question ended up with …?)

Q6) And finally … 24th September, 1975, saw a British team complete their ascent of which mountain … ?
And here’s (suitably corrected) questions and answers …

Q3) 23rd September, 2002, saw the first public release of the Firefox web-browser: what was it called, on that release?
A3) Phœnix 0.1.

Q6) And finally … 23rd September, 1909, saw the initial serialization of Le Fantôme de l'Opéra: what, according to the book’s author, was the real name of the Phantom?

Enjoy those, everyone: I’ll catch you later.

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
