Well, it’s now officially officially.
I’m now one year older.
And getting to the age where thinking about TELLING you how old I am is an issue.
But to heck with it: 44, in case you’re asking … !
Now, the question is … ?
Will any of the three people I know I share it with, over on Facebook, do the same … ?
I doubt it, somehow.
I DO know that the notorious thief and escape artist, Jack Sheppard — ALSO known as Jack the Lad — would be 310, were he still alive, today.
I somehow doubt he would be, though: he was hung, when he was in his early twenties.
Hmmm …
Let’s get moving on, shall we?
Before I get into depressing territory …

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mr Strict, Alexandra and Debbi putting in their answers: with Debbi and Mr S scoring 5, and Alexandra bagging 2, it ALSO saw Debbi* wishing me a Happy Birthday, and Alexandraº declaring that
Marmite,
Vegemite and
Bovril aren’t food.
Let’s see how they — and
you — do with today’s questions, shall we? Here they are, along with the ‘
How To’,
License and
video …
Q1) I share my birth with notorious criminal Jack Sheppard. Also known as Jack the Lad, how many times did he escape from prison … ?
Q2) More to the point, where was he hung, once successfully caught … ?
Q3) While we’re on birthdays … 4th March, 1947, saw the birth of actor and author, Gunner Hansen: which (fictional) killer did he play the first version of … ?
Q4) 4th March, 1968 is my birthday: I share it with which — rather obscure — South African cricketer … ?
Q5) Moving on from birthdays … 4th March, 1861, saw the Confederate States of America adopt what … ?
Q6) 4th March 1794, saw the US Congress pass the 11th Amendment to the Constitution: what did this introduce … ?
Q7) And finally … 4th March, 1918, saw the first case of which pandemic disease … ?
And here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 3rd March, 1905, saw Tsar Nicholas 2nd of Russia agree to establish an elected parliament in Russia: what was that parliament’s name … ?
A1) The Duma.
Q2) 3rd March, 1857, saw the start of the Second Opium War: name either of the countries that waged it, against China …
A2) France and the United Kingdom. (Basically … ? It was so Britain and France had guaranteed rights to sell shedloads of opium to the Chinese. They say drug dealing is a modern thing … )
Q3) 3rd March, 1938, saw what discovered in Saudi Arabia.
A3) Oil. (What … ? You expected Melàngé)
Q4) 3rd March, 1980, saw the world’s first nuclear submarine begin the process of decommissioning: what was its name … ?
A4) The USS Nautilus.
Q5) And finally … 3rd March, 1982, saw the Queen open the Barbican Centre, in London. Name either of the theatres in the Barbican Centre …
A5) The Barbican Theatre, and The Pit.
Enjoy those, everyone: now, if you’ll excuse me, I going to blow the diet, and pig out on cake.
(Not one covered in Marmite, though … That would be silly … )
Oh, and JUST for Alexandra …
*
Thanking
you, Debbi … ! :D Oh, and here’s the Wikipedia entry for
Marmite …
º Which is where I’m going to disagree, Alexandra … :P
How interesting. I had you figured to be in your 30s. But 44 is really young. So is 50. You're only as old as you feel, really. :)
ReplyDeleteNow you've got me curious about Marmite. I've already tried Jammie Dodgers. Now I simply must go to the UK, so I can try Marmite. Well ... that and see a few sights and so on. :)
