The Daily Teaser — 31-3-2015

It’s officially Tuesday: and today, I’m back at work.

OK, granted, I’m probably going to have a work with my boss about that: that’s not exactly a liveable amount of income.

But’s a couple of upsides.

On the minor front … ?   The reminder app I got for my phone — called SplenDO — seems to work well enough.

And Sunday — it ’s only today I’ve thought to tell you — I managed to have an interview at Café Nero: during the branch’s Recruitment Day.

I think that went well.

Think, note: I won’t know until Friday.

I’m vaguely hopeful, though: although I’m enough of a realist to not get those hopes up too high.

Hopefully?

Hopefully I made enough of a good impression to bag the part time vacancy …

But let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Debbi* putting in her answers: and scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How ToLicense and video …

Q1) 31st March, 1492, saw Isabella order her Jewish and Muslim subjects to convert to Christianity.   Isabella was Isabella of where: Aragon, Castile or Catalonia?
Q2) 31st March, 1964, saw Castelo Branco set up a military government: after a coup.   In which south American country?
Q3) 31st March, 1909, saw construction start on the RMS Titanic.   In which city?
Q4) 31st March, 1854, saw commodore Matthew Perry sign a treaty, that allowed the USA trade where: China, Japan or Korea?
Q5) Finally … 31st March, 1885, saw the UK establish the Protectorate of Bechuanaland.   The Protectorate is now known as which African country?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 30th March, 1867, saw the USA buy what’s now Alaska: from what was then Russia.   What’s the capital of Alaska?
A1) Juneau.
Q2) 30th March, 1939, saw the publication of Detective Comics № 27.   Which famous comic book character did it introduce: Superman, Batman or Wonder Woman?
A2) Batman.   (The series ALSO introduced the Elongated Man.   Apparently … )
Q3) 30th March, 1979, saw the death of Airey Neave, MP: blown up by which paramilitary group?
A3) The INLA: or Irish National Liberation Army†.
Q4) 30th March, 1905, saw the birth of Albert Pierrepoint.   Pierrepoint was a long serving what, for the UK?
A4) Hangman.
Q5) Finally … 30th March, 1856, saw the signing of the Treaty Of Paris: which ended the Crimean War.   In which French city was it signed?
A5) Paris.   Obviously …
I’ll leave you with this thought …
“There’s an old African proverb that says ‘If you want to go quickly, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.’   We have to go far — quickly.   And that means we have to quickly find a way to change the world’s consciousness about exactly what we’re facing, and why we have to work to solve it.”
Al Gore, born March 31, 1948.
And this tune …

Have a good day!

*        If it’s any help, Debbi†, today and tomorrow are five question sets …

†        Just as a point of trivia for you, Debbi?   The carpark where Neave was killed?   Was the same one we see Patrick McGoohan drive into, in the opening credits of The Prisoner.

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
