The Daily Teaser — 4-10-2015

No … !

No!!!

Really, I mean “No … !”

Don’t you DARE say a word about last night’s episode of Dr Who.

I Haven’t SEEN It Yet … !

Much as I actually like my job, there’s times when it can be a git.

No, really!

I work shifts.   Which includes having worked, last night.   Which generally went well, even though we seemed to get few customers.

I’m blaming the rugby, there.

At ANY rate … ?   That means I’ve not yet seen last night’s episode of Dr Who.

I’d rather not catch spoilers … !

~≈Ÿ≈~

But let’s get a move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw both Debbi* and Olga† putting in their answers: with Debbi scoring six out of six, and Olga scoring five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How ToLicense and video …

Q1) 4th October is the feast day of Saint Francis of Assisi.   Assisi is in which European country?
Q2) More to the point, which Pope — and former nightclub bouncer —  takes his papal name from Saint Francis?
Q3) Gunpei Yokoi died on 3rd October, 1997.   Which hand-held video game device did he create: the Game Boy or the Atari Lynx?
Q4) The Rome General Peace Accords were signed on 4th October, 1992.   The Accords ended the sixteen year civil war: in which African country?
Q5) Finally … 4th October, 1626, saw the birth of Richard Cromwell, one of only two commoners to become England’s head of state.   As such, what title did he hold: Lord Sheriff, Lord Provost or Lord Protector?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) Iraq gained its independence from the UK: on 3rd October, 1932.   What’s the capital city of Iraq?
A1) Baghdad.
Q2) Staedtler Mars was founded on the 3rd October, 1835.   The company is the largest manufacturer of what, in Europe: footballs, pencils or shoes?
A2) Pencils.
Q3) 3rd October, 1952, was the date of Operation Hurricane: when the UK tested a what?
Q4) World War 2 era tea rationing ended in Britain: on the 3rd October, 1952.   What’s the world’s biggest producer of tea: China, India or Kenya?
A4) China.
Q5) More to the point, which UK tea brand was the first to introduce teabags: PG Tips, Tetley or Twinnings?
A5) Tetley.
Q6) Finally … Boris 3rd acceded to the throne: on 3rd October, 1918.   Which country was he king of?
A6) Bulgaria.
I’ll leave you with this observation …
“… the secret is in landing limp and breaking the fall with a foot or a hand.   It’s a knack.”

Buster Keaton, October 4, 1895 – February 1, 1966.
And, as Susan Sarandon celebrates her birthday, today, this tune …

Have a good day.   And don’t mention Dr Who … !

*        Well … it’s certainly all over the place, Debbi … !   About the only upside I can think of is that it makes for a good book.   (Which reminds me, I really need to pick up Deep Six … !)

†        Oh, there’s answers, there, Olga … !   For starters, there’s the Mac Mini: the bottom line model’s £399.   Comparatively cheap: and pretty good for basic web surfing and writing.   It’s the one I’m trying to save up for: very affordable on my money.   And, as Macs can work with Windows keyboards and bog standard monitors — which I’m assuming you have? — you can save money, there.   You can also put in for the business discount — last I knew it was something like 10%, for a business buyer, which would be £39, or there-abouts —and what’s more … ?   If you go directly to an Apple store, you can ask them about their trade-in programme: that’s should help.   As a final thought … ?   The actual operating system isn’t THAT hard.   The bottom of the Mac’s screen has what’s called the Dock: any programmes, there, just open with a click.   And clicking the Finder icon — the icon that looks vaguely like it was designed by Picasso — opens up a Finder window: that lets you find things.   Ummm … … … …

Other than at work I've never used a Desk computer as I've never been in a place for long. I've always had laptops. Thanks for the information!

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
