The Daily Teaser — 18-11-2015: Steamboat Willie

Right now … ?

Right now, the phrase, “We’ll always have Paris,” springs to mind.

Basically … ?   because, of course, I’ve got out of bed, this morning: and done my usual thing, of turning on my TV set.

Set, as it usually is, to Freeview Channel 130: the BBC news channel.

And, almost immediately … ?   Almost immediately, it showed me that something is kicking off in the Saint Denis area of Paris, linked to the Friday 13th attacks: apparently, police have swooped onto a flat in the area, where a woman has tried to blow herself up.

It’s an on-going situation.

And hopefully … ?   Hopefully, one that’s resolved without loss of life.

At least … more loss of life …

But let’s get a move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Debbi* putting in her answers: scoring five out of five pin the process.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s Mickey Mouse set, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How ToLicense and video …

Q1) 18th November, 1928, saw the release of Steamboat Willie, the first Mickey Mouse cartoon — indeed, any cartoon with any characters — with synchronized sound.   The ’toon was co-directed by Walt Disney: working with whom?
Q2) Disney and his co-director worked on an earlier cartoon character: Oswald the Lucky … what?
Q3) Mickey’s girlfriend debuted in Steamboat Willie.   What’s her name?
Q4) Was Steamboat Willie in colour?
Q5) Finally … who’s the villain in Steamboat Willie?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) Revolutionary Organization 17 November — known, more simply, as 17N — was a left-wing guerrilla group: in which European country?
A1) Greece.   (It took its name from a student uprising.)
Q2) 17th November, 1986, saw the assassination of Georges Besse: outside his Paris home.   Which French car company had he been head of?
A2) Renault.
Q3) 17th November, 2000, saw Alberto Fujimori removed from the Presidency.   Of where?
A3) Peru.
Q4) 17th November, 1925, saw the birth of actor, Rock Hudson.   In which year of the 1980s did he die of an AIDS related illness?
A4) 1985.
Q5) Finally … 17th November, 1901, saw the birth of actor/director and acting coach, Lee Strasberg.   His ‘Method Acting’ technique was based on a system originally created by whom?
A5) Constantin Stanislavski.   (Indeed, Stanislavski referred to it as his (lower case) ‘system.’)
I’ll leave you with this thought …
“Disney put us out of business with his sound.”
Felix The Cat creator, Hal Walker, after seeing Steamboat_Willie.
And this song, as a version of it was used in Steamboat Willie …

And, just in case you want to do some research … ?

Have a good Wednesday …

*        My pleasure, Debbi!   (Oh, managed to do a permissions check on my Mac, last night … Seems to have TEMPORARILY stopped some problems I was having with Safari … )

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
