The Daily Teaser — 31-1-2016

Lordy, but don’t you just love working on a Sunday … ?

Actually … and on a personal level?

I don’t mind working on Sunday.

Where I — sort of — have an issue … ?

Is the fact today is also a staff meeting.

At 8:30.

I hate early starts when I’m working … !

~≈®≈~

But let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Michelle*, Olga† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with all three scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How tolicense and video …

Q1) 31st January, 2010, saw a well known film become the first to earn over $2 billion.   Which James Cameron film was it?
Q2) 31st January, 1990, saw the first McDonald’s opened in the USSR.  Which McDonald’s product contains a sauce similar to Thousand Island Dressing?
Q3) The Van Allen belt was discovered: on 31st January, 1958.   The belt surrounds planet: Venus, Earth or Mars?
Q4) Norman Mailer was born: on 31st January, 1923.   He won a Pulitzer Prize for two of his books.   The Armies of the Night was one.   What was the other?
Q5) Finally … 31st January, 1983, saw British drivers legally obliged to start wearing what: crash helmets, seat belts or spectacles?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 30th January, 1806, saw the opening of the original Lower Trenton Bridge.   Over which US river: the Potomac, the Delaware or the Mississippi?
A1) The Delaware.
Q2) 30th January, 1972, saw British Army troops kill 13 civilians: on what’s now notoriously called what?
Q3) 30th January, 1964, saw NASA launch its Ranger 6 probe.   Where was Ranger 6 heading: Mars, Venus or the Moon?
A3) The Moon.
Q4) The Viet Cong, and the North Vietnamese Army, launched a well known military action: on 30th January, 1968.   The action was called the what Offensive?
A4) The Tet Offensive.
Q5) Finally … Peter Leko became the world’s youngest Grandmaster: on 30th January, 1994.   As such, he was and is a noted player of which game: Backgammon, Shogi or Chess?
A5) Chess.
I’ll leave you with this thought …
“I don’t think life is absurd. I think we are all here for a huge purpose. I think we shrink from the immensity of the purpose we are here for.”
Norman Mailer, January 31, 1923 – November 10, 2007.
And this classical piece …

Have a good day … !

*        Nice to see you in, Michelle!   (You didn’t … ?   That’s a shame: I loved Penny Dreadful, myself: Eva Green and Rory Kinnear are amazing in it.)

†        Be careful out there, Olga!   Don’t go head over heels!

‡        Og, I don’t know, Debbi, alternating between A major and A suspended fourth always seemed to work for The Who …

There's some advantage to starting early other days of the week as at least you avoid the rush, but on Sunday...
I'm saddened by the news of Terry Wogan's passing. He was part of my early mornings for quite a while.

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
