Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3-6-2016

Blast … !

I didn’t manage to get to Kidspace with my nephew, yesterday!

Guess what kicked off?

You’re right …

My guts … again … !

Which lasted for a couple of hours, I should add.

Long enough to be decidedly uncomfortable.

And long enough for me to put my boss on warning, for today.

Just in case!

~≈Ÿ≈~

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Debbi* putting in her answers: scoring ten out of ten in the process.   The day also saw Olga† getting in touch to let know how things are going.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) 3rd June, 1991, saw Mount Unzen erupt.   The volcano is in which Far Eastern country?
Q2) The trial of Chelsea Manning started: on 3rd June, 2013.   Whilst in the US Army, Private Manning had leaked important documents to which website?
Q3) The High Court of Australia recognize Aboriginal land rights: on 3rd June of which year: 1991, 1992 or 1993?
Q4) 3rd June, 1865, saw the birth of Prince George Frederick Ernest Albert.   When he acceded to the throne of the UK, it was under what name?   (I’d prefer to see the name and regnal number: but will accept just the name.)
Q5) Finally … 3rd June, 1906, saw the birth of which noted American-born dancer?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 2nd June is International Sex Workers Day.   It’s also known as International what day?
A1) Whore’s Day.
Q2) It marks the day in 1975, when protesting prostitutes occupied a church: in which French town?
A2) Lyon.
Q3) The term, ‘sex worker,’ was coined by Carol Leigh: in which year of the 1970s?
A3) 1978.   (That’s according to Wikipedia.   The OED traces the first usage to a NY Times article in 1971.)
Q4) The Scarlet Alliance is a sex workers organization: in which English speaking country?
A4) Australia.
Q5) Is prostitution legal in the UK?
A5) It depends: it IS in England, Wales and Scotland, but not in Northern Ireland.   (In other words, having sex for money is legal in England, Wales and Scotland: pimping, soliciting in public and kerb crawling, aren’t.)
Q6) The ‘Whitechapel Murders’ were a series of murders of prostitutes: in 19th Century London.   Five of those murders were — apparently — committed by which killer?
A6) Jack the Ripper.
Q7) The many victims of sexual slavery and forced labour usually get into the UK, how: trafficking, teleportation or car?
Q8) Driving through an area, looking for a sex worker for hire, is usually known as kerb … what?
A8) Kerb crawling.
Q9) A building where sex workers work, is a what?
A9) Brothel.   (Amazing what you can find with Google!)
Q10) According to a Channel Four documentary, in 2014, Sheila Vogel-Coupe is (possibly) the world’s oldest sex worker.   How old was she at the time of the documentary?
A10) 85.   (Who wants to be the first person to have a boggling mind … ?)
I’ll leave you with this thought …
“If you’re going to come away from a party singing the lyrics of a song, it is better that you sing of self-pride like ‘We’re a Winner’ instead of ‘Do the Boo-ga-loo!’”
Curtis Mayfield, June 3, 1942 – December 26, 1999.
And this tune …

Have a good day …

*        Oh, I’ve seen Time after Time, Debbi: good little film, that.   (Seems the writer/director responsible for the film, Nicholas Meyer, also directed Star Trek 4: The Voyage Home.   Looks like time travellers in San Franciso is a bit of a thing for him …)

†        Oh, I’ll be being VERY careful, Olga: I’m going to try and avoid the stuff I know triggers a reaction, and take the Buscopan with me.   I’ve had an old friends — called Carly, who suffers with similar stomach troubles — suggest drinking water, first thing in the morning, rather than tea: her thinking was kick starts digestion, and avoids the severe cramps.   At ANY rate!

  2. Hot lemon water seems to be the thing... Strangely enough being an acid fruit it seems to fight acidity

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
