Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 26-3-2017

Oh, gods but that was a rough day!

Yesterday, that is … !

You know how you get a bad morning?

I started with one.   I think I managed to forget to take a fiver with me: my change, in other words!

I’ll have to ask about that: god knows where that’s gone, if I have left it there!

It only went downhill, from there!

With one snotty customer after another, phoning into work.

Seriously snotty: I don’t often lose my temper at a customer, that often.

What can I tell you?

Apart from making sure my apology went on the record: in case The customer called in to complain.

Now … Have an earworm …

~≈Ê≈~

But let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with both scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions set, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) Saladin became Emir of Egypt: on 26th March, 1169.   The title is occasionally translated as what: prince, duke or baron?
Q2) The Siege of Algeciras came to and end: on 26th March, 1344.   The Siege is notable, as it marked one of the first uses of what, as a weapon: germs, bees or gunpowder?
Q3) 26th March is Independence Day in Bangladesh: marking its independence from where?
Q4) 26th March, 1973, saw the Stock Exchange first admit whom as traders: children, computers or women?
Q5) Finally … 26th March is Purple Day: designed to raise awareness of which condition: dyslexia, epilepsy or Alzheimer’s?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) Robert the Bruce became King of the Scots: on 25th March, 1306.   Famously, he complained of breaking his favourite battle ax: at which battle?
A1) Bannockburn.
Q2) King Faisal died  on 25th March, 1975: after a gun attack.   Faisal was king of where?
A2) Saudi Arabia.
Q3) That same day — 25th March, 1975 — saw the National Front, a notorious far right group,  launch violent protests.   Against what: joining Europe, immigration or imported cheese?
A3) Joining Europe.
Q4) The Coxey’s Army march, started: on 25th March, 1894.   What was it protesting against: Chinese immigration, unemployment or alcohol use?
A4) Unemployment.   (It, and the later Cox’s Army, sound very reminiscent of the Jarrow March.)
Q5) Finally … 25th March, 1957, saw the signing of the treaty that formed the European Economic Community.   Name any one of the six founding countries.
A5) Belgium, France, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and West Germany.
I’ll leave you with a thought …
“The future is called ‘perhaps,’ which is the only possible thing to call the future. And the important thing is not to allow that to scare you.”
Tennessee Williams, March 26, 1911 – February 25, 1983.
And this tune‡ …

Have a good day …

*        Oh, I can remember when our communal aerial went down, Olga: during the Saint Jude’s Day Storm.    Very frustrating: it took a devil’s age to repair!   And it was in the run up to the Dr Who 50th anniversary: you can imagine how I felt!   At ANY rate, I’m glad I had the AppleTV, at least I could catch up with stuff.   I also know I’ve an old friend in Wales: who swears blind the only way she can get a decent signal is by using Sky …

†       Without the splint, Debbi?   I’m impressed!   Sounds like the experimental treatment’s working!   Shame in one sense, though: I had also those RoboDebbi gags lined up!   :D

‡        I always wondered where Lenny Henry got Theophilus T. Wildebeest!

A4 I assume you meant The London Stock Exchange and the Answer is Women.
The New York stock exchange had a woman many years earlier.

I hope today is better. Dealing with complaints must be exhausting at best...
Yes, they do have Sky, although they seem to have about twenty million devices plugged and rigged into so many things that it's worse than a maze. Luckily they contacted me about something else and they advised me what to do and it worked. (I took the chance to watch the new Mad Max movie I hadn't watched as I'd heard good things about it).

  3. Got lazy and kept my flexible splint on today. And I think I aced the teaser, even without knowing which stock exchange. Trevor needs to work on his search skills! :)

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
