Something I saw on the BBC’s website was this piece.
Apparently? Some online gamers were recently feuding in the US.
As part of that feud, some gamers have turned to a prank called ‘swatting.’ In other word, phoning the nearest (famously armed) local US police, telling them there’s a major gun crime going on at their rival’s address, then sitting back and grinning when the SWAT team turns up on the rival’s doorstep.
Except in this case?
The police were given — and turned up at — the wrong address.
And shot dead the innocent owner of the house, when he answered the door.
Personally?
I don’t like the idea of armed police, where-ever they are.
But can’t fault the SWAT team in this case, for doing what they’re trained to do, even though it’s ended in a tragedy: indeed, I think the UK police have armed response units that would’ve reacted the same way, in the same circumstances.
I CAN, however, heavily criticise the idiots who put in that original ‘prank’ — Ha! — call.
Q1)30th December is the 6th Day of Christmas. My true love gave me what?
A1)6geese a laying, 5 gold rings, four calling birds, three French hens, 2 turtle doves and a partridge in a pear tree. So far, and assuming my maths is correct? My love has given me 6 geese, ten rings, twelve calling birds, twelve French hens, ten turtle doves, six partridges and six pear trees. Out SIDE of where to put them? My thoughts are turning to manure.
Q2)30th December is the feast of Saint Egwin of Evesham. He was the third bishop of where: Evesham, Pershore or Worcester?
Q5)Finally? Lincoln’s Inn admitted its first female students on 30th December, 1919. The Inn is one of four London Inns of Court. Name one of the other three.
A5)The Honourable Societies of the Inner Temple, Middle Temple and Gray’s Inn.

† You’re going to need the loud trousers, as well, Debbi! AND the braces! (I think I saw the US Inns mentioned in the Wikipedia article: I believe they take their name from the London ones. Actually, I’ve been to the Temple Church‡ in London: when the two Temple Inns worship. It’s got a circular section at the back: complete with alcoves full of gargoyles. Bloody horrible, they are!)

Getting into another conversation, I had the exam for the Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists at the Royal College of Surgeons of England that is located in Lincoln's Inn Fields. A great location and a fascinating building. It was a long exam, over two days, and I had a bit of time to wander around and even went to a lunch-time concert at a church nearby (and passed the exam!) Happy 2018! (Ah, and don't forget you can always e-mail Jeff Bezos to complain about the deliveries). All the best.
I'll have to visit there when I get back to England. Someday! :)

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?
I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.
Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.
Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.
Thank you.
* I know many value their online privacy. I respect that. But hope you respect my wish to see who’s commenting on my blog: and my wish for you to introduce your self to me, and to your fellow commentors.
